Hi
I have a small area of garden around my villa which was over run with weeds/grass/reeds.
Last June I paid a local man to dig it over and remove the growth, all he did was turn it over. It took him 5 days at £20 a day. I pulled out what I could and levelled it but obviously it all came back.
In September when we went out, every morning I went out and dug it down to base hardcore, removed every bit of growth I could find and levelled it. I then watered it with Sodium Chlorate.
I am told that it has come back yet again.
Is there any thing I can buy in Turkey that will kill the lot so I can make a fresh start.
I am an OAP and can't face digging it over every time we come out.
Regards

Personally I'd recommend stone paving !!!! far less troublesome :D ;)

You can buy Round-up. The motor-mower shop opposite Goksular Yapi Market / B&Q sell it for 10YTL a bottle.
-
Round-up is the stuff to use, it kills the roots. It takes a few days to see any effect but eventually the greenery turns yellow and dies back. Don't cut the tops off until they are dead.
Depending on how strong the root system was you may need to spray again in a few weeks time, if any re-growth appears.
To encourage any re-growth give the ground a good watering after the weeds have died from your first spraying.
-
Note that if you have used Sodium Chlorate then this type of weedkiller basicly poisons the ground, so that nothing should grow, many weeds will struggle on though, but just be aware that if you try and grow 'proper' plants the residue in the soil will more than likely prevent them from flourishing.
-
Sodium chlorate is effective for around 6 months.
You can test if the ground is clear of the sodium chlorate by putting some of the soil in a seed tray or flower pot and sow some fast growing crops like radish or mustard and cress.
-
Level it out then cover in polythene and cover with pea shingle, maintenance free.
-
if there is grass on this area you don't use round up
-
Why not ?
-
Because grass is same family with weed. When you use round up grass gonna die
-
OK Ayshe, we know that Round-Up isn't a selective herbicide. It'll kill everything.
-
Weeds including grasses come from many different families.
-
Weeds are only plants that are growing where you don't want them.
-
yes you dont see many poppies about now
they used to look beautiful in the fields
-
axus44 you could cover with black bin bags
weighted down with stones, they will die eventually
plant gerainiums or any plants, you wont see the weeds as much.
it is hard work keeping on top of weeds.
-
With the polythene when it rains here how does the water drain as we have been thinking about the shingle idea.
-
Just punch a few drainage holes in it. Any odd weeds that manage to come up through the drainage holes can be pulled out or treated with Round Up.

I know it seemed like a silly question but I did wonder if you could get some sort of pourous membrane over here, but ten again my brain is quite pourous what goes in comes straight out again lol
