We are making the big move later this year and my 14 year old (nearly 15) is coming with us. Does anyone know what are the schools like and how much does it cost?? Has anyone else taken teenagers to live in calis?? How easy did they find it to fit in and settle??
Thanks for any input

Hiya
Good to know we are not alone. Do your kids speak turkish?? We have been told that 15+ have to speak fluent turkish to go to school, is this true.
We have a place in calis too, on the same road as the sunday market... where are you???
Lesley

Hi Lesley,
Yes you are right we have decided to let the kids have 6 months to one year out of school to learn the language we have been told this is the best thing to do others may disagree, but how can they learn anything if they dont speack the lingo. They are going to have private turkish lessons, until they are able to understand it.
we have a place not fare from you, near the kidney unit, near market.
maybe can meet up
AMANDA
-
maybe we could meet up and share the cost of a tutor?
-
Hi Amanda
Lucy posted last reply, sorry so short. I don't disagree with your decision, we are thinking along the same lines. Six months of intensive turkish lessons will be the best way I think.
The way of life and morals there far out do the loss of eduction here!!
As posted before maybe we could split the costs of lessons and also it will be good for them to know they are not alone!!!

Hi again
I will try and explain the house more........
If you walk up from the boat dolmus, go straight over the round about, past Taurean Estates, keep walking past all the new built villas on the same road until you come to the right turn to the sunday market, where the grassed area is.... Turn right there towards the market. About 75 - 100 yds is the second turning right and there are 2 large white houses with dark wood verandahs??? Pool in the middle?? thats us!!
Any help???/
-
Not that the pool is me obviously!!!!
LOL
-
LOL
think so have to pay you a visit, when you get there, good news on the house front, might be sooner then you think then.
You not taking the lizard, he would love it there. lol
got so much to do i cant get my head around all of the things i have to change and sort out. wish i had a fairy godmother to wave a wond and take over, lol

HI, I too am thinking of moving to Turkey, Calis, to be with my turkish boyfriend and his family, no date set, or YEAR yet.. loads still to think about, school is my number one priority for my 3 children, ages 9,10, and 13 . maybe as my partner lives close to the market, it wud be good to get to know some other english parents, children, . taking the children out of english school here, and giving them private turkish lessons, good idea, but is that all they wud do, just learn turkish? no other education, maybe i cud home teach, how do i go about the education thing, i am so not in the know, need lots of help from english people who have done, doing the same thing,,,HELP PLEASE!!!
-
i have 11 year old and 15 year old ive been here 2 years 11 year old settled nice and is nearly fluent but big regrets with 15 year old the school work is too much even with the basic turkish he had with private tutor he had at beginning has now left school but i still dont regret bringing him here to get him off the streets of london ...if you want to meet us when you get here just email me :)
-
HI Tracey, thanks for the reply, you say that u moved there 2 years ago, and your 11 year old is nearly fluent, wow.. my eldest is nearly 13, and has looked at the downloaded language thing i got address for off here, and has had a go, but it is hard, 10 year old has amazed me, he has picked it up rather quickly, Who did you use for thier tutor, have been told about a ROSIE. how much were the lessons, and were they done in the home? Yeah we are returning in December to be with partner and family for xmas, will e,mail you, partners home isnt far from sunday ,market he often plays pool with his children in the cafe opposite, so he can go on line and talk to me by phone, . Wud it be ok to ask you any other questions on here/email as i dont really have a friend in turkey who is english and has done the same as what i want to do, ?? Thanks Cas
-
Why don't you talk to Karen from Karens Kardz her daughter is more turkish than the locals she has been in school here for 7 years but now at college and looking to go to police academy in the next 2 years
-
i wud appreciate talking to any one, who has done, doing the same as me and the children..how did your children react to moving to turkey, my eldest has said, he'll miss his mates...and top gear...
typical boy...top gear indeed!!! lol xx
-
Hi all

Its been hard at times but hey nothing worth having comes easy so feel free to email me if you want a chat :)

i would not advise children over 13 to come out to turkey and go into education it is very difficult for them in the system at this age, also make sure you have all the necessary paperwork from the embassy in uk as they will not be allowed in school otherwise,
-
Just out of interest - does anyone know how scareylady and amanda got on with their move to Turkey? Did the kids all go to school etc? I know the earlier posts on this thread were from almost 5 years ago, but, having just read through it all, I need to know more now!!!! :D
(It's like not knowing the ending of a book :) )
-
Hi there
I'm sure if you look closely you will see we did make our move to turkey, started a business ( Hobbs Family Sausages), got my daughter into school, husband had accident, daughter left school and went back to uk, we lost business, sued the ESNAF, went back to UK......3 years ago!!???? OMG so much in such a short time. Any one want to buy a villa??? lolxx
Thanks for the heads up Scunner xx
-
