Hi all, a question please?  What is the white stuff that you paint on fruit tree trunks?  where do you get it, what do you do with it and when is the best time to do it?  thanks   :)

It's lime. You get it from any of the agricultural suppliers. You paint it around the tree trunk anytime of the year.

The present Mrs thinks it's got something to do with ants etc.

Yep. It's supposed to keep ants and also bark eating vermin off of the trees. However, if they're already on it, it'll stop from getting off. It's the same as all these clever folks who surround their property with yellow powder to keep snakes, scorpions etc out. If they're already on the property, there's no way out for them.
