Title: Turkish words for these products please.
Post by: Jacqui Harvey on May 19, 2015, 20:24:45 PM
O.K. now we are here for 5 weeks am doing some cooking.  Chicken breast stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon with new potatoes and fresh peas from the pod all bought at the market and the Pork shop, was tonight's success story.
So, please can someone let me know the Turkish names for Creme Fraiche, Sour Cream and Corn Flour please.?  So I can move on with my menus.  ;D  ;)

Creme Fraiche - Creme Fraiche (Not sure what suppplies are like now but they used to be a bit sporadic)

Cornflour - Misir unu (Turkish corn flour is yellow and slightly courser than you'd be used to. You can get British corn flour in the Pork shops OR buy potato or rice starch which is almost exactly the same as corn flour.)

Not sure about sour cream.

Cornflour presuming you mean cornstarch is MISIR NISASTASI.  I'm not so sure you can get creme fraiche here, but would have thought the thick yoghurt they do here (Suzme?) would probably be a suitable substitute, and would probably also do for sour cream.  I tend to use the little cartons of krema and add a squeeze of lemon juice.

Thanks for the information folks.
Hi Cleo,  It is Corn Flour in the U.K.  It is, however, called Corn Starch in the States, I assume you must have lived there.
