Title: International space station
Post by: rik on July 17, 2017, 22:11:49 PM
The International Space Station travels in orbit around Earth at a speed of roughly 17,150 miles per hour (that's about 5 miles per second!). This means that the Space Station orbits Earth (and sees a sunrise) once every 92 minutes!
It's easy to see when conditions are favourable. There is a particularly good time to see it on Saturday (22nd) evening, as it crosses the sky, more or less from horizon to horizon and directly overhead. I'm aware a lot of people have seen it, but for those that haven't, this is the relevant details.
It will appear at 22.03:56, 10 degrees elevation in the South West. Highest point is 22.07:11, 89 degrees elevation. (more or less straight up) It will disappear at 22.10:26, 10 degrees elevation in the North East. It will look a bit like a plane flying over, but no flashing lights.
