Road Trip
« on: March 22, 2009, 20:15:14 PM »
Has anyone made the trip from Fethiye to Mersin. I am planning to make the trip while i am over in July and maybe September. If anybody
knows roughly how long the journey will take I'd appreciate the help.

It may be worth looking at alternatives to driving if anybody has any
other suggestions. I know I can count on somebody on the forum to help.

Thanks

Peter.

dear peter,
i drove from mersin to fethiye once and i would never ever do it. if you know the road between kas and kalkan imagine the same road all the way to mersin. it is almost like that.also i would recommend you to go september as hunidity in mersin and adana area is unbeliavable. the alternative road is to go to konya and adana to mersin. from highlands instead going from coast line. but i am not sure which one is shorter.
if you want scenery go from coast but which ever the way you use it is tiring

I have done the journey several times but only by coach, during the day and also at night. It takes about 13hours.

The scenery is beautiful traveling through forests and along cliff tops.

We did it a couple of years ago and stayed at the Mersin hotel down near the harbour.  The route is very pretty between Mersin and Alanya but that takes the time as it is very hilly and windy (like Kas/Kalkan road). After that it is ok all the way to Antalya and over the mountains to Fethiye. From what I remember we set out after breakfast from the hotel and got back to Fethiye about 11 pm stopping on the way for lunch etc.

Never been. But to me Kas and Kalkan road is a fantastic drive, would love to do in open top car in spring or Harley.
