Following on from a recent post by Jacqui Harvey about a granddaughter appearing on the television, Just wondered if any members have any claims to fame , tv appearances , celebrity stories etc to share ?

Following the death of Edward John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer, Diana's father, it was my photograph of him that appeared on the front pages of the first editions of 4 national newspapers. I'd had a chat with him a few days previously at a meeting of the Pytchley Hunt at Althorp and had asked him if it was OK to take his picture. It was his last ever public appearance and photograph before his death. I gave Diana and his son, Charles the 9th Earl, framed copies of the portrait.

For those of you with long memories ... Acker Bilk and I played darts against a couple of members of his jazzband. I can't remember who won.

More recently ... on our trip to Kapadokya we met with John Osman and his wife. John was one of the great BBC foreign correspondents reporting on the horrors of post-colonial Congo and Idi Amin's Uganda. We spent some time together and met up again on the coast later in our holiday. A fascinating, charming man.

Two urinals in a Redruth pub toilet - at one stood Comedian Jethro, at the other me. That's his claim to fame anyway.

When we were in Northern Cyprus we went to see Lawrence Durrel's house that he writes about in "Bitter Lemons". We went for a drink nearby in the quaint Gardens of Irini. We were chatting with Irini and her husband when a chap peered round the entrance gate. He had a whispered conversation with Irini and then ushered in the man who was clearly his boss who sat in the garden and drank, only, a small glass of mineral water. Apparently he had been told that he must visit this spot on his trip to Northern Cyprus.

Who was this chap? The Roumanian Ambassor to (southern) Cyprus. Was he a VIP? I don't know. But he clearly thought he was!

I've got a mention on Becky Jerams new cd release. I' m thanked for all my support on the inside sleeve. I had no idea until after the release last week
