Migrant agreement deal
« on: March 18, 2016, 16:44:51 PM »
European Union leaders and Turkey have finalised a deal to try to halt the mass movement of migrants into Europe. European Council President Donald Tusk tweeted there was "unanimous" agreement between Turkey and the 28 EU leaders. Under the scheme, from midnight Sunday migrants arriving in Greece will be sent back to Turkey if their asylum claim is rejected, EU sources said.

EU leaders seem to have overcome the "Hold Your Nose" factor. This is the phrase used earlier in the week by a BBC Foreign Correspondent describing how many EU leaders approached doing deals with Turkey.

I think it'll all be fine. Afterall, they're dealing with the most pious, reliable and trustworthy family in the history of Turkey.

More than 1700 people got stopped last night whilst making their way to Greece and were all taken back to Turkey. 1700 in just one night, incredible.

But how could they know whether the people turned back, packed tightly into an inflatable boat, were Syrian or not? Or is the deal they stop all attempts and the Syrians are all taken from the border camps?

All those at the Macedonian border will be going to Turkey too. As this deal was supposed to be one in one out,how will it work? Where in Turkey will they go and what provision will be made for them? There seems to be none or little help for the refugees already there..
