Real fish & chips in Calis
« on: July 14, 2016, 20:19:17 PM »
Last week following rave reviews we visited the new Charcoal Palace near the Calis duck pond to try their fish & chips.

It was delicious, panga (panka? ) fish in the lightest batter.
Served with homemade chips, mushy peas, tartar sauce.
Bread and aci dip and a gorgeous garlic & mint yogurt given as a starter.
20tl.

The family have recently moved to Calis and had a fish & chip shop in Scotland.

Their son is 15 and is the friendliest, nicest lad with a big personality and is a brilliant host and waiter.

Definitely recommend.

They do Turkish food too. Cant comment other than what we saw coming out the kitchen looked very nice.

I meant to add..... No noisy music from bars. The singer is over the opposite side and provides a nice atmosphere without being obtrusive.

This sounds like the place our friends visited earlier in the season.  They both agreed the fish and chips was amazing too.
We must try it when we're next over

We went a couple of weeks ago and agree that the fish and chips were excellent. It's on the site of the old Bedestan restaurant that closed down last year.

Can back up everything Linda says.  7 of us went last Saturday, most of us had fish.  Best fish and batter I have tasted in 11yrs of living here.  One of our party had mixed grill which was huge and tasty.

Anne, its the place where we all ate last year, the Bedestan Ocakbasi, right at the back. They had a very large buffet laid outside when we walked through recently. Lots of choices.

Can only agree a great place to eat & no noisy bars in ear shot if you want to avoid that, I had a mixed grill & explained  I did not like chicken on the bone so they kindly swapped chicken wings with liver on kebab skewers, no fried egg either which is a good thing as plenty of meat which a grill should be about, will definitely try there fish and chips next time we eat there.
