Overcharged for Turkish Visa ***PLEASE READ***
« on: January 27, 2014, 14:40:00 PM »
I have just had an e-mail from a friend who, on checking her bank statement, has found that she has been charged two lots of £55 (£110 total), for a visa for herself and her husband.  Her bank have credited her with £55 and are investigating the other £55 charge.  Just highlighting this so that others can keep an eye on things.

Do you mean the online visas?

Surely these are $20 each which comes to about £28 for two. Where does £55 come into it!

They may have gone through one of the sites that charged you for getting a visa. Easy to click on the wrong website and get taken for a ride.

Here's where £55 comes from Stoop: https://www.evisa.eu.com/

Please avoid these "third party" TR visa websites

The correct & official one is:  https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/

That would explain it. Easy to do if you aren't up to date with things.

The first one is above the official one in Google search results which really doesn't help.

Many thanks for your replies.  It would appear that she has clicked on one of these sites, which, as you say is easy to do, if you aren't familiar with the system.  I will let her know.   Many thanks.

You don't suppose they have paid Google to put them at the top of of the page do you? Surely Google don't do anything evil - certainly not as evil as paying UK tax.

As I remember what was particularly nasty about this site, apart from charging you £55 for something you could get for £24, was that it described itself as an official Turkish visa site. That is, a site which could get you could get an official visa - not an official Turkish site.

Actually charging £110 for something you can get for £24. I'd say the bank has refunded one £55 in error.
