Sad songs
« on: August 26, 2019, 00:14:10 AM »
I read a post on another page today asking what they thought was their saddest song.. One guaranteed to always make them cry..
Mine and Barrie’s would be The Greenfields of France.. found by accident after a few drinks on our balcony in Fethiye.

Seasons in the Sun, Terry Jacks.  I've just googled it and worked out I was 8 years old when this was released.  I remember feeling so upset when I heard it - and it still can bring a tear to my eye.

Mercury, Green Fields of France was written by a Scots musician called Eric Bogle. He emigratedfrom Peebles in the Borders  to Adelaide many years ago on the £10 packages. I have seen him live on many occasions including in Oz, and I have most of his cds collected over many years. His songs are covered by many artists too, but Green Fields of France and Waltzing Matilda are 2 of my favourites of his also. Good thread. x
