Hi Charles
I do know somone who drives down to Calis every year, they go via Italy and go across to Cesme on from Brindisi.  I believe that it is very straight forward the only requisite is that if you leave the country the vehicle must go too.
No ideas on packers though.
Hope this helps
Howard

Hi Charles...

I don't mean to put you off but it's a long old journey via car...  however if you do decided to take your car be aware of leaving your vehicle alone in Italy... Car left is a regular thing over there...

I'm speaking from experience as I lived in Bari (an hour away from Brindisi)for many years...

The journey in itself is shattering...  take extreme care when crossing the Alps...  We ended up loosing are brakes and crashing...

The Italy motorways are brilliant however they are not cheap...

Hope this was of help...
