Woke up this morning to snow! The proper stuff- not that light dusting that often paralyses the south of the country but the proper northern kind! Of course with their usual optimism GMTV never likely to panic the nation were warning people not to travel unless their journey was urgent. We have that every year. What constitutes urgent then? Do people genuinely stay home from work at the first sign of the white stuff? :)

My bloody journey to the airport on Monday for a start !

I remember in the "good old days" when we used to have a proper winter in the UK, and plenty of decent snow...but the country seemed to cope better with the weather conditions then. There were no alerts about travelling on the TV or radio, trains still managed to run etc. When and why did it change? My dad used to take us to school on our sledge, that was so cool!

Stratford Upon Avon tomorrow for a dirrrrrty weekend :)

Minimoo was that because nobody had cars and the engines boiler used to melt the snow in front of it :D

When I was in primary school (age 4) we had to go in to school.Even when I was in High school in the early 70's we didn't get time off school because of the weather. About 10 years ago there was a really heavy snow storm and I couldn't get home from work and had to stay the night. It was the only time I can say that I slept with my boss. :o 8) :o

Been snowing fairly heavily here today and the temperature is now plumetting, so going to work tomorrow is going to be challenging especially as the Council appear to have been caught out AGAIN by a well forecast snowfall ARGHHH.

Going to work turned out to be not so much of a challenge as a bloody nightmare.
Twenty minutes clearing the 6" inches of snow off of and all around the car. Another 5 minutes trying to get the car about the fifty yards onto the main road. Slid and slithered down the steep hill into town and then through the town and eventually onto the main road to Inverness. Not far along that road started to notice that the car wasn't behaving properly, even given the snow on the road. Having travelled much of the journey sidewise, I finally made it to the office to discover that the problem had been a puncture in one of the front tyres. And of course I couldn't get into the office carpark for the heavy snow still lying there. Matters didn't improve when, shortly after I arrived, I learned that the Client whom I was meant to meet, had called off.
The only surprise was that my mate on the electronic road sign had made it to work before my and had been kind enough to put up the message "CAUTION - SNOW FORECAST - DRIVE CAREFULLY":(

H did you stock up on wine???
If you did open one and chill ;)
-
Yes so was my journey to work H!
The road leading from my road was like an icerink, I skidded and lost control of my car it was so scary, the car just started to spin round and luckily it stopped when it hit the kerb because all I could see was someone's brick wall approaching, lucky for me a very kind man who was coming up behind me stopped to ask if I was ok so there are some good souls out there still!
-
Hope this sky means that we will be able to travel tomorrow
