Title: Visit to Bozalan School - Our Photos
Post by: Scunner on May 09, 2012, 10:22:53 AM
Sorry to keep you all waiting, I know many of you want to see this so I have made it my first job since I got back to the UK.

The 7th May 2012 was an amazing day - happy, humbling, at times quite upsetting but in the main, exciting - not just for the kids, for us lot too  :)

Please, if I could ask one thing (other than give us a donation of course) it would be if you could like this page on facebook if you are a user (like button is just above and below this topic) or even better please copy the link into your facebook to share it rather than like it. These photos might mean a wider audience exposure and if that gets us a fiver, it was worth asking.

Ok sermon over  ;)

Three (very large) vehicles brought bags and bags and bags of goodies that morning - and that doesn't even begin to cover the furniture and outside equipment which is already there or on the way. So first, let me share my photos showing the school:

And if you are caught short, it's just a short hop through the snow in winter to the luxury detached toilet suite...

[xx(]

Oh and I didn't realise before. When I said there was no playground equipment at all that turned out to be inaccurate - there are swings, just missing one component - you guessed it, the swings...

...don't worry, we'll be putting that right  :)

A welcoming committee was ready to greet our arrival...

And many bags and items we have bought with your donations needed to be taken from Tardis like boots into the school:

A SMALL part of the collection of delivered bags...

There is never any lack of help with the heavier items as you can see from my two co-workers:

Me and my mate making sure Highlander's bins got in safely...

Some of the bigger items that the funds have already been raised for and made and delivered...

Every child was also given a 3Cs goodie bag containing numerous exciting items - here are the kids receiving them and opening them - I said afterwards that it seemed that just for a short time we borrowed the whole World's excitement and used the whole lot in just one room. The photos don't do this justice and I have also taken a short video which I will edit and put up on Youtube or Facebook sometime soon. The noise was amazing, and it was around that time that several of our group shed a tear or 500...

This little girl chose not to open it up and join the screaming and shouting, she just took a look inside and held it tight to her...

It would be perfect if members looking through my photos can keep in mind that it was YOU that did this. The smiles, the screams, the excitement, the colourful furniture, the goodie bags - not me, not CBF - you! If I had my way everyone should experience a day like this at least once - and those who saw the original shocking pictures and just moved on to another forum topic I must say if these photos don't get you, you must have a heart made of rock!!!

A last word - to the people who make sure your money gets used to buy the right things for the right places, order them and in most cases deliver them too - the 3Cs committee - just awesome. You'll never meet a more giving bunch of people in so many ways.

As for me, why do I want to do it - for all the normal reasons, to make the school dry and healthy, to give kids a better chance, to perhaps champion a "give Turkey something back" attitude to those who tell us stories on CBF of great times in Turkey - but top of the list of "why did I do it" is simply...

...This:

From a pound to a huge donation - WE MADE THIS HAPPEN!!! THANK YOU...

Hopefully someone will find better words than I to comment on this.

I am afraid I just cannot express how much I admire the work that has gone into making this happen.

The work of the 3C's committee is simply outstanding.

And although he will not want to take any of the plaudits, I would like to express my admiration for Keith in making all this possible through his Forum.

He said "you don't get many days like this in a lifetime" - well this one you richly deserve.

With a tear in the eye

H

Trust me, in my case the rewards far outweigh the effort  :)

The only thing I could have wished for was to be there, and I was.

Wonderful, congratulations to everyone involved.  Having worked abroad for many years, I sometime find the ex pat community rather cliquish and selfish towards the locals, but when I see what the ex pat community have achieved here, I reserve my thoughts for people in other countries. This is just fantastic and it bonds the Turkish people to those who have been so generous in thought, deed and donation.  These children will be forever grateful. VERY well done.

Fantastic photos Keith.  Can't wait for the video now.
Well done to everyone who got behind this project and most of all to the 3C's for not only bring the school to our attention but for taking on such a mammoth task.  I'm sure when they first found the school they never dreamed of such a fabulous outcome in such a short time.
For those with the swinging bricks.  Can you see what WE did without YOU!!!  Imagine what more could be achieved if you sent in a quid.
Well done once again everyone.

What a difference it makes to see the children holding the gifts we bought for them.  How often do you get to see the results of a charitable donation?

I feel quite giddy that I was involved (even though in a very, very small way)  and am really grateful for the pics and knowing that everything we donated has actually gone to the cause.
Fantastic work!

And can I also add that the items we raised the money for were delivered using the cars of three members of the committee - yet there is no entry in the Bozalan spreadsheet for petrol used for these and previous journeys. I just want people to know that apart from the committee's dedication, this shows how every single penny raised is spent on the project - every last one.

Just so gutted that I couldnt go, but hey ho every picture tells a story and I can see the delight on their little faces :) :) Loving the lockers etc so bright and cheery. Mercury what do cakes make?? lockers lol.  This was a tsumami of a project but with the power of poeple and advertising all can be overcome and CHANGES CAN BE MADE.

A few more pictures of our brilliant day at Bozalan

We are welcomed by the children and teachers

The men of the 3C's take advice from the 6 year olds on how to put together the flat pack benches

These children got fed up of waiting and went off to play with the box instead!!!

One hour later and nearly there - think we'll leave the other two for the kids to do !!!!

Fantastic set of pics Keith. I'm sure the video will let everyone know the true extent of the excitement.

Even though I was outside constructing the bench the noise coming from the school when the bags were handed out was quite extraordinary - a day the children will remember for a very long time.

Very proud to be associated with this project and very sincere thanks to all CBF contributors  :) :) :) :) :)

Amazing pictures, what a great cause..I,m proper filled up just looking at them. Would love to see the pictures when the playground stuff arrives. It will be lovely for them to at least have a flat surface to play on. Well Done, glad to have been a very small part of it. Bernie

The pics on some of these Bozalan school threads are great. It does make you wonder though, while there are schools like this in Turkey, what the government is thinking of in lowering the school age when the current school population is not properly catered for.

The 3C/CBF Bozalan Project had/has it's own section on CBF and that really helped raise the funds so needed at the time. But it doesn't need it's own section now, so I will move all the Bozalan topics into the 3C section and delete this one at the weekend.

But I thought I'd post, before it sinks into page 7 of the 3C forum, just to remind all members what can be done when people pull together. It started long ago with the Starfish charity events, then with Pete & Chrissie and the 3C committee and the "can do" attitude is clear to see locally again with the current response to the awful Mine disaster at Soma.

Also perhaps something new to see for newer CBF members. We did good, time to unpin it  :)
