Title: Hasan Kofcuoglu (HK) Restaurant
Post by: Liz 101 on November 13, 2013, 12:27:04 PM
Last night, we went to celebrate a friend's birthday & her OH had pre-ordered the special menu. What an absolute treat it was, 10 cold meze, 6 hot meze, main course of the metre long Adana kebab, topped off with a lamb & chicken shish & a desert meze, consisting of 10 dishes, 5 of which were fresh fruit.

Everything was well presented & whilst a couple of things were not to our taste, that is no reflection on the restaurant. The service was attentive, though not "in your face" & the best recommendation of the night was not to eat too much bread!

As for the bill, I don't know, but this has been widely advertised as being 45tl / person, & if that was the price it is very good value. The botttle of Angora was certainly 60tl. Whilst it wasn't overly busy, (it was a Tuesday night) there were IRO 30 other diners, all of whom I would say were Turkish.

Just one small point, a birthday cake had been ordered in the morning, but that didn't appear nor was it on the bill, however, none of us could have eaten it anyway, so it probably is a plus point  :-\

They're planning to be open all winter & we will definitely be back

We also went here in late October and had the set menu and would concur with everything that Liz says, we had a wonderful evening and our only regret was that we only found this restaurant a day or so before we returned to the UK.

I've heard a few people saying nice things about this place - but everyone omits one thing - where it is!!!

We also went when we were over end of October really enjoyed it, as you say only downside was price of wine but the front of house guy did explain that the turkish people don't really drink wine and as an authentic eastern turkish restaurant they didn't have much of a wine selection..... On plus side they also left us back home

Angora at 60TL is a tad expensive but your choice if you choose to buy it.. Nice to know that there is somewhere different to go.

Just want to add my two pennorth regarding this fab place.

Second time for me eating here and this last occasion (Mother's Day) was exceptionally good.

The set menu is perfect for 4 or more people. I have no idea how any less than that would manage all the food......

The mezze starters are wonderful and just seem to keep on coming! Then the star of the show the metre long kebab. Adana (minced beef) kebab with lamb chops and chicken pieces on top too. Along with some roast peppers and onions.

Dessert is a mezze of dishes including fresh fruit and some different and rather lovely sweet puddings.

Make sure you are REALLY hungry before you go. There were 5 of us and we struggled. In the nicest possible way of course.

No alcohol for the boozers as it was Election Day, so just soft drinks all round and water. Bill came to 250TRY. Worth every kurus.

Impeccable service, very chic decor and a very attentive owner.

I'm not sure who Teo is. Is a tall, slim, good looking very polite young man who used to have a restaurant/bar in Calis? He was telling us this as we left the other night.

Friends treated us to a meal there last week and I have to say it was superb, from being met at the front door and escorted to our table by the manager (Teo) where we found our table set and 14 different mezes already in place, the metre long kebab (which is shared just in case your worried ) was delicious and not being one for sweet stuff after a meal, even I liked some of the sweets they brought to the table. Can't comment on the bill as friends paid, we had two bottles of really lovely Cabernet Sauvignon as it was Chris's Birthday and the restaurant brought her out a white chocolate birthday cake. The roof terrace looks great for summer evenings, we will definitely be back.

Went here for the 2nd time on Monday night. Although to be precise, last time we were at the old location, up on the roof terrace (now about to open as an Irish pub !), and this time at their new place on the prom.

My summary is....  excellent.

They do have a fairly extensive menu, but we didn't really look at it to be honest as I was keen to try the special again.

Last year we were in a large party and had the special kebab (8ft long!) along with a selection of starters and desserts, so I was interested to see what you got when ordering the same for just 2 people.

We were not disappointed - the same array of cold starters served with warm pitta/naan style bread, followed by a humble 2ft kebab and then to finish, a selection of 5 dessert dishes arrived.

The special is TL50 per person - which seems fantastic value for the selection you get - only drinks to pay for on top of that.

You may think its just a kebab - but it isnt, it comes with extra items added such as lamb chops - its more of a mixed grill on pita bread.

I would highly recommend it.

Ian

We went a couple of weeks ago very impressed, we ordered from the menu prices very reasonable and drinks cheaper than most on the kordon, ie 8tl for Efes.

We went a few weeks ago.  I was surprised with the menu prices very reasonable.  We decided on the Turkish Breakfast which was 20tl each.  The selection was amazing for the price-  liver & onion, cheese & potato rolls, potato salads, chips, 5 variations of cheese, salads, fresh bread, olives, acili ezme & other dips & eggs all washed down with a large thermaflask of cay .  The portions were large & the amount we had could easily have fed an additional person, and if we fancied anymore of anything it was brought with no additional cost. We will definately be returning!

I went there at the beginning of April with my daughter and her two children. We were not impressed with the food but..... As the evening was cold and wet, as we walked along the Kordon, the weather became even worse and we saw this place. They had a fire going and the inside restaurant was very warm and inviting. We ordered food, a couple of mezes and main courses. Mezes were fine, but main course not great, very luke warm and not good to be honest. The ambience in the restaurant was lovely, there were other tables occupied and a couple got engaged that night so the atmosphere was good.
And yes, I did mention about the food and the reaction was to give us lots of free mezes. We actually sent them back, I spoke to the owner and said my intention in complaining was not to get free food! I also said I would return there as I had enjoyed the whole evening, albeit the food was not good. Maybe strange to some, but for me, good atmosphere is a consideration also. I would certainly go back to this restaurant as they were welcoming and listened to my complaint and dealt with it. Looking at other posts, they seem to have sorted the food out!

Five of us went there the other evening and on whole the meze's were okay but the mixed grills were nothing special and over priced for what you got compared to other places along the prom.Their Pide was excellent and so was the hand cut chips. As for the beer and wine prices a little steep seeing as a small bottle of efes malt is 10tl and bottles of wine were more expensive than Mancero's which is a more elegant establishment where i  except this. Service was slow and not very well organised .Also they had no English written menu's at the time so we had to ask about everything.
