Our hero detectives are stroppy. They growl at suspects, berate their partners and are constantly fall foul of their bosses because they refuse to accept authority. In this respect DI Alex Hardy in Broadchurch is a bit of a wimp. He can't match up to Ian Banks let alone Rebus; will never challenge Harry Bosch or Andy Dalziel; isn't even as grumpy as old Maigret. But the miserable, misanthropic, truculent, unmanageable, cantankerous, shabby, contemptuous wreck that outperforms all these - combined - has to be Carl Morck of Department Q. Makes me feel quite sociable in comparison.

I like your style Colwyn..........you have a way with words! I'm new to Department Q but I quite like the guy's style - he gets the job done. Each to his own I guess. :)

There have been some very good Scandi Noir programmes on TV just lately. The only criticism that I have is that it's a struggle sometimes to concentrate on the subtitles and I have to keep rewinding back a couple of minutes. Beck and Follow The Money had some really interesting twists and turns to the plots.

Have you watched The Bridge? Swedish & Danish detectives and subtitles. Probably the best I've watched. The female Swedish detective makes the whole programme really.

I think In The Line Of Duty would be hard to beat, great detective series and Martin Compston is so good in it.
It is our favourite programme at the moment, always leaves you dying to see the next episode.

No, I missed that one. It's not listed on BBC iPlayer and it's £1.99 an episode on YouTube. It's bound to come around again though and apparently season 4 is in production at the moment.

The first series of Bridge was excellent. A body is found in the dead centre of the bridge (sorry, couldn't resist it) between Sweden and Denmark and thus has to be investigated by both police forces. Did you see Trapped? Definitely the chilliest, being set in N.E. Iceland in the middle of a blizzard (thus preventing any outside help getting to the tiny police force of the town). Complete with enigmatic, scruffy, grumpy, DI escaping from authority!

It's OK, I've just read a synopsis of the plot of The Bridge. :)
I started to watch Trapped and got distracted by other things so many times ( I do most of my watching at work ;) ) I lost the plot and haven't gone back to it. I'll maybe give it another go.

Season 3 wasnt anywhere to be found but a friend found a link on pirate bay.

I watched Department Q last night. The episode where Johannes kidnaps the children. A good base plot but so many inconsistencies and outlandish situations to make it anywhere near believable.

So, DCI Roz Huntley in Line of Duty loses her left arm below the elbow and nobody's a bit surprised ? Really ? Did none of the other detectives notice ?
