That CBF may benefit from some new moderators :D
To perhaps include a couple of people that actually live in the Fethiye area.
I appreciate that Scunner wants to know the moderators reasonably well as it's his forum after all but not one of the current moderators live here and only three that I'm aware of post on anything like a regular basis.
I'm sure there are some regular contributors that have time on their hands that wouldn't mind giving it a go to see how it works out; KKOB and Colwyn ;)

Truth be told Nichola, location has much less to do with being a good moderator than enthusiasm. I get your point though.

Apart from the lovely Nichola, can I suggest Liz101 as I think she would make a great mod, has good old Yorkshire common sense, does not suffer fools gladly and has lots of local knowledge (only if she is amenable to this of course) . Must agree with Nichola that it seems strange having mods with no local connection.

To be honest it doesn't take a lot of moderation - no objections to new blood, just no need really.
It's also amazing how many people believe a moderator/administrator shouldn't be expressing their own views, and that an argumentative one reflects badly on the forum they moderate for. I think this is poppycock :)

I agree with Nichola, Surely a moderator who has moved away from Turkey is less enthusiastic about this site than someone who still lives here. Also someone living here will still wish to keep it alive.

That was my thinking too Diverbaz - it's just not about the moderation itself.
I would have thought that the feeling of responsibility and enthusiasm would be a good motivator to help as you say, keep the site alive :)

I agree it might be a good time to let a couple go who have maybe moved to another country and not posted on CBF for quite some time. Tinx comes to mind. Not seen or heard of him since he moved away. Hope you don’t mind me mentioning that, Andy.
I don’t think you actually need to live in or own a property in Turkey to be a mod but I do think we need those who are still active on the forum. By active I mean actually coming on to view not necessarily posting.
Having said all that the moderation is a doddle these days. Not much to do tbh.

It may surprise some of you to know that I'm currently a moderator on a non-Turkey related forum and that, in the past, I moderated on two Turkey related forums.
I really don't think it necessary for any of the moderators to be resident in Calis, Fethiye or Turkey for that matter. What is important is that they have some knowledge of the area and, in the event of a disagreement or dispute, are willing to step in and do what their position suggests, moderate.
It's the members that supply the vast majority of the information on any forum and the moderators, in general, are there purely to step in if anything untoward kicks-off or there's an attempt at a spamming attack.

Totally agree but I think we have one or two that do not frequent the forum any more. I stand corrected if I am wrong on that.

I don't think those one or two need replacing. Even at it's peak the daily traffic on the forum doesn't warrant any more moderators.

Good point ... but if Scunner takes up Nichola's idea then we will have even more unless someone relinquishes their status.
Like you I don't think we need any more in number.

If needed to make up the numbers I'd be happy to be a mod.
I think those that no longer have a connection or no longer visit Turkey would no longer share the enthusiasm of those that do.

I'm more than happy to have some new blood on the team. I don't see how being a mod would make anyone who is enthusiastic about living there post more than they would as a member though.
Let's sort it at the weekend when everyone will have a bit more time to show new mods the ropes.

I am more then happy to to put my name forward it you need volunteers, purely because I love CBF so much and would hate to see it go, if by having new folk it frees up Keith's time and keeps our fab forum going more then happy to do so :)

The original post was a request to have moderators who actually live in Fethiye/Calis. There's no actual need for extra moderators at all as there is very little moderating to do on the forum these days and as a few have said - living in the area does not make for a better moderator (but it does make for better informed contributors on many topics - just as owning a holiday home or just holidaying in the area offers a different perspective to those who live there permanently on many other topics).
So either way I don't think it will make much difference at all.

What on earth are you playing at, Nichola. Are you an agent in the pay of a rival forum seeking to break newly-returned CBF. Surlely you wouldn't release that bloke Colwyn on a delicate mechanism such as an internet forum? KKOB is another matter. I think he has had experience on a forum where the frequent posters are/were quite barmy - flat-earthers, climate change deniers, moon landing deniers, people who call the EU the EUSSR, and conspiracy theorists of the first water. He'd coast with a nice, smooth, and relatively sane forum like this one.
