Remember the scruffy shops at the "Million Shop" near the Tuesday Market in Fethiye and going up towards the fire station....they were all upgraded very tastefully in an old brick style and IMHO now look attractive and in character. So don't give up hope just yet. :)

We fell in love with the quirky Calis, but you have to move on and all this work can only be good for the area so we think its good most especially if they 'really' pedestrianise it!, but as Stoop says are they doing anything to the bridge?, in need of urgent repair or replacement most people think....but I won't hold my breath.

Good luck with the removals Keith!

Exactly - and spookily enough, a similar style is planned for Calis.

I take the argument about change - London must have been quaint and charming when it was just a couple of hundred rickety wooden houses and the sewage system was a bucket out of the bedroom window - look at it now, they ruined it. Why couldn't they have left it alone  ;)

I'll ask about the bridge - you want quirky and scruffy, but not for bridges, I got it  ;)

Couldn't the road be covered over to look like Meadowhall or should I say Meadowhell!

Oh, flippin eck not again. Its progress.  ;)
There are very few of us ( come on Laffa!) that remember it but its not that long ago that there was NOTHING over the bridge from the sea- not a single shop or bar or restaurant or ESTATE AGENT- can you believe that? :oIt was like that all the way up the main road to Gunlukbasi.
I dont care for all the changes but , if things had stayed like that chances are Calis wouldnt have attracted as much tourist interest , wouldnt have had the building development it has seen, some of us might not be owners and, perish the thought, we might not even have this forum!:(
If they're going to have a shopping area may as well be a nice one IMHO![:X]

About time too. It really is looking tatty along there now. I'm sure it will be good for Calis and business there. There's a difference between character and being run down.
