Bank information required

Found this on another forum has anyone got any knowledge of it.

...has anyone else received word from their banks or saw on the TV that anyone with a savings bank has to present either an Ikametgah document or a Utility Bill to their bank before the 15th December?

This is apparently a new rule...one news article said that if nothing is presented to your bank there's a risk your account can be frozen (they used the word blocked).

I don't know if this is just for turkish citizens or includes foreigners as well. I'll be taking my mum to her bank this week to check..so I'll post on here what they say.

Hi Kevin,

If you have a direct debit acc. which is paying your electric, tel or etc..
this should be enough for the bank. Or  living permit which is 'ikamet tezkeresi' as turkish you can give a copy of this to the banks. From Turkish customers they will offer these forms till 15th of December. We didnt have special message for foreigners.

in case of any help that you need please do not hesitate to contact me.

regards.

Alper

Hi All
A big thread about it on the Kushidasi forum.
Aparrently you need to get to your bank with proof of address ie, electric bill or the 'ikamet tezkeresi' before the middle of December or you have your account frozen. How people who are out of the country are going to do this I dont know.
Also I am awaiting Tapu, so local electricity bill is not in my name & I don't own a property in UK so I dont have a bill from there. ( The banks won't accept one from Pakistan)
As we arrive in Turkey on 12th December it looks like they have managed to block every way out. Again.

Steve

Two weeks ago I was asked for a utility bill at the HSBC in Mugla when I opened a different account from those already hold. They relented when I pointed out that I paid  my electricity through them  by direct debit.

I think Alpers answer is all you need if you live here!It would seem to be part of the turkish governments efforts to stamp out the black economy. There is an explanatory article in todays Zaman, available online or by buying the paper. The requests for the utilities bill addresses are created by the central bank, so a quick call to you local bank sorts it.

Thanks
