I did not say let the tourists decide. I said can we be allowed to have an opinion?
The Turks must do want they want, and we must decide where we want to holiday and eventually where we want to retire.

And Scunner.

Of course the Turks want MacDonalds, we did in this country too years ago, when
we we naive enought to want to copy American culture.
On your premiss of us not having an opinion on whether the Turks have a McDonalds, then perhaps we should not interfere with the Turkish people who are installing a swimming pool for two helpless dolphins?   So should the opinon of all those Brits like me who have
signed the petitions ... as you say..."Count for anything locally?"
If an American fast food place opened on the seafront, it would not be long before every other place was the same.   The prom  would be ruined, however, look on the bright side
you would get the business from people deciding to sell their holiday homes and look for somewhere less commercialised to spend their time.

Total nonsense Jacqui!

You don't often read what people say - I SAID that we should support the locals on the subject of the dolphins. This is because they don't want them and we can add weight which might just help. Moaning about a burger bar that nobody in the indigenous population is against will only irritate your hosts. Surely you can see that!!!

Where in the World did a McDonalds open and result in every other restaurant becoming the same? Any example please. Has it happened in Fethiye with the arrival of Burger King? Should I be looking for the McMegri or Ocakburger? Of course not.

Authentic resturant ? all do chinese, indian, mexican, turkish, from the same kitchen. McD will add a choice if the people don't go it will go bust and by the people I mean locals, not just the tourists.
Remember we are guests and if we want to be shown respect we must resepect the locals and their wishes it is after all their country.

That's another good point Charles - how many 'authentic' Turkish restaurants are there now on Calis seafront? I'd estimate (entirely authentic) around none.

Mercury - the 1 lira cornets (we call them cones in Lancashire) but as usual I know what you mean - but anyway - they are my real favourite treat when we are in town - good quality - great price.

We agree again!!!!! :D

loads of Maccyd's and Burger Kings in Istanbul, as well as lots of Starbucks. Years ago I would have been in the oh no brigade as I loved Turkey as it was and selfishly didnt ever want it to change. But people are entitled to choice and having a Mc Donalds isnt really any different to having Chinese, Italian & Indian.

Couldnt find any Chinese and Indian in Istanbul and was to be honest getting bored of lamb kebab, chicken kebab, shish kebab, cat kebab etc......and had real cravings for something different

We went to Burgerking last year when we were in Fethiye, and im not ashamed to say we did. I throughly enjoyed it. I love Turkish food, but I am also a bit of a junk food addict, and towards the end of our hols we hot footed it there to feed my addiction :D and i was pleasantly surprised by the price. I just hope the MacD's thats opening will not be the same extortionate prices as at Dalaman and stay on par like BK did  ;)

Slightly off topic, but I wonder how many who are against the opening of a MacDonalds are customers of any local Pork shops.
