Using an iPad 3g in Turkey
« on: April 23, 2011, 20:49:25 PM »
Has anyone used an iPad 3g in turkey?
If so did they buy a turkcell or vodafone microSIM?
If so can you buy them on a 'pay as you go' basis?
I know there are numerous wifi spots around available FOC, but there are many occasions when I want/need access when at home in the villa.

I'm also interested in this - ideally a data micro sim on pay as you go or if not then a normal sim which I can then cut down.

Anybody?

We brought a ipad out to Turkey last October and bought a Turkcell Sim card which was cut down to size but unfortunately it would not connect.Luckily the shop refunded the money which was over 100tl.

I took mine last year, did not bother getting a sim as I had been told they had to be cut down and it generally didnt work!, just use the bars and the free wifi as I did it connected fine.

I know Avea do 1, there was a guy having 1 fitted when I was in the shop recently. My dongle works relatively well, speed is not up to UK standard but once connected is fairly consistent.

I am in Turkey and writing this response from my 3G iPad using a Turkcel sim card. Each time I come out I purchase 1G for 39 lira ( this is ample for my use for c. 4 weeks) and I find that the speed is normally very acceptable.
Just make sure if you purchase a sim card that your iPad is registered here in Turkey, otherwise it will 'lock' after about 2 weeks and won't be able to be used until registered.
