"Mosque tours"
« on: May 10, 2011, 13:59:25 PM »
Friends of ours on their recent 1st time visit were asked if they wanted an exclusive tour of the Fethiye mosque.
They had literally just stepped off a dolmus in from Calis.
Off they duly trotted, had a look round and were then asked for "donation" for mosque and "guide fee".
So please do beware.
The "guide" also then tried to get them to dine at "uncles restaurant"
Has anyone else had this happen or is there a new scam in town?
According to my Turkish friends, no one is allowed to take money to show anyone around the mosque.

Man alive! So this still goes on!?
It must have been 8-9 years ago when I got duped. The little chap approached me as I was making my way to catch a Dolmus. He said that there had been a crash and the road was blocked and that I could cut through the mosque. Being none the wiser I did, and once inside the penny dropped. I gave him dues and listened to what he said for 10 minutes. On leaving he asked for a donation... he was pretty miffed when I gave him 10 kurus.

We got "caught" last year and I have to say, I didn't mind one bit!  Always wanted a look in the mosque and didn't know how to go about getting in there so thorough appreciated it.  Our daughter got some prayer beads thrown in!
