Now I know this maybe unusual but after several sitings over this year I have identified the object as a "Humming Bird". It visits us once a week but today I managed to see it in the Bourgenvillia.

Definately a small bird, perfectly formed with a 1 cm long curved beak and super colours. Will keep the camera ready next time.

Really super to see it.

More likely to be a hummingbird moth here in turkey Steve, not quite warm enough here for hummingbirds, they prefer tropical climates.

I've seen several and thought at first they were moths but then I conviced myself they were humming birds.  Now you have all dispelled they myth - boo hoo.  Birds I love, moths NOOOOO.    :)

Yep, definitely a hummingbird moth.

Hummingbirds are restricted to the Americas from southern Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, including the Caribbean. (Wikipedia)

You didn't miss anything Keith.  I hired one once. The accelerator cable went all round the cabin and engine compartment and was prone to stick.  The result was that you would try to start off smoothly by pushing gently on the pedal, then a bit harder, then harder still until the cable suddenly moved and you were off, leaving most of your tyres behind you:(
