Exactly Bewva people live their lives by what they see on TV. They really should use their own brains more and not believe all the exaggeration on TV. GlennB  people only have to look at a map to see how big Turkey is!  : :)

No issues from Mrs Toky and myself from returning to Calis except finding time to fit it in at present due to other commitments. What's happening now can happen any place at any time. The one exception to this as Colwyn's Tangent would not go back to Marmaris Holiday on a good deal never mind a Groupon deal.

But how many stayed away I the 70's. Different if you live somewhere but I can fully understand any holidaymaker not wanting to put their family at risk.

Actually, the troubled times of the seventies in the UK were very different to what Turkey is going through now, although the effect (of terrorism) on tourism and the local economy is comparable.  London especially suffered a drop in visitors from the US and from mainland Europe during those times.

This is an interesting report (from 2005) looking at the effect of terrorism on the local economy of London published by the London Chamber of Commerce: Link

Not sure what you mean by "people bury their heads in the sand".

People who "bury their heads in the sand" pretend things aren't happening. So the opposite of those not going because of what might be happening  :)

Good friends of ours are giving Turgetries a miss this year after six hols there. They have no children and just feel a bit put off by the situation at present. They have booked a week in Morrocco. Is it safe there?Who knows,I hope so.
If we didn't own a property there maybe we would try somewhere different, but we would miss Calis for sure.

We have booked two flights to Turley this year but if I am honest would I be going if we did not have an apartment there ...I don't think so .It's ok being loyal to Turkey and saying 'a terrorist attack can happen anywhere ' but I would rather being on my own turf  god forbid if it did happen with family and friends not a four hour flight away and unable to speak the language fluently

Not sure what you mean by "people bury their heads in the sand".
It is what people do for fun on a bucket&spade holiday.
