On the way to Patara
« on: April 05, 2018, 06:19:26 AM »
A DAY TO SOOTHE THE SOUL. Driving thru villages, where time has stood still, Essenkoy, Gokben, Kabaag, Minara, Esen, Letoon  to the the fab ruins, Karakoy, thru Esen town to  Patara village, which is very pretty and quaint. Final destination, Patara beach, which thankfully is protected. Sheer delight, softest, silkiest sand in this neck of the woods. Picnic, paddling and walking along the shore line, with the gentle surf was heaven.

Lovely pictures busybee.  Is the trip available from Calis or Fethiye as a day excursion?

Fabulous photos busybee.

We first discovered Patara about 15 years ago when, believe it or not, the UK still did package trips there.  We'd been to Bitez for our first holiday to Turkey in 2001 then Calis for the first time in 2002 so were looking for somewhere else to try.  It was a bit of a last minute break and just for a week and we had no idea what to expect.  There was a four hour transfer from Dalaman, none of the new roads built then  :o  and a changeover from coach to taxi in a garage forecourt somewhere.  It was the early hours of the morning when we got to the hotel in Patara village and very, very tired!  To say the hotel was basic was an understatement  ;D

However, we loved it.  It wouldn't suit everyone but we just loved the quaintness and the people were so friendly and helpful.  Being able to go down to Patara Beach in the dolmus, or just have a long walk down was lovely.

We've been back since, while staying in Calis, and stayed at one of the hostels in the village for a couple of nights after getting the dolmus there. We keep saying we'll do it again, definitely worth it.

Thanks legless............does the dolmus go direct from Calis or do we change at Fethiye?  Dennis.
