One name is better even if you are married Peter.

We put our property in joint names when we bought, but now regret it.  We have taken out Turkish wills, which will not stand up under Turkish inheritance laws and a POA each.  We are now trying to sell, just to take our assets out of the country.  We do have rather a complicated family, both of us previously being married with children and a child of our own, so I would say that it rather depends on your family circumstances.  In hindsight (which is a wonderful thing), we would have put our property in only one name, and that would have solved all of our concerns, as if that person leaves this planet first, the property would be legally split as our wishes are mirrored in our wills.

I must add that we absolutely love Calis and when we sell, we will be returning just as frequently, but renting instead.

you pay purchase tax @ 4% for every name on the tapu. so 2 names means 2 lots of tax.

Sorry but that is not the case at all.
I stand corrected boss, I was told this was the case when we bought our property. Our family is complicated also and we took all this into account when deciding whos name went on our tapu. Now that we are selling we have a different set of problems.

Power of attorney makes no difference if one pops of
Yes it does - as long as they don't pop off in Turkey, and you subsequently 'forget' to tell the deeds office...

Yes I did. I meant purchase tax. not council tax. I was told if 2 names went on the tapu purchase tax on the tapu value had to be paid by both parties??

So here's a question.

Two families buy a property and only one name from one family is put on the Tapu.

How do they go about making things easier if the person on the tapu eats a dodgy prawn and pops his clogs in Calis - or pops his clogs anywhere for that matter?
