Anyone ...(up north apparently) heard of Peckers which I was told is a word for a tool to pick the coal up when lighting a fire?
No rude replies please and I can't help thinking of other words, apart from woodpecker LOL.....that have deep routes in history.
How on earth did we get words like MANGLE, used in washing, WRINGER, I can understand.  CARDIGAN, did it originate in Wales.   JUMPER, was it wooly and jumped like sheep? SNEAKERS, well, well. SMOCK & FROCK, where did these words come from. JERKIN, BALACLAVA, WELLINGTON BOOTS, Pinny (PINNAFORE i Guess) HMS MAYBE LOL, STOLE,who stole it?...VEST (invest maybe),MITTENS,PYJAMAS,ETC ETC
No wonder non British people don't know what we are talking about, then there is "YOU WILL BE LAUGHING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF YOUR FACE IN A MINUTE"  sorry about this, bit of boredom I guess
