When we first moved to the Highlands, whisky was by far the favourite spirit, but I don't think that is the case today.
I well remember going out with my new work colleagues for the first time and asking for a gin and bitter lemon. I was told in no uncertain terms that if I wanted a poof's drink, I'd have to order it myself. I suppose the green velvet jacket and platform shoes might well have had something to do with that. Platform shoes didn't arrive in the Dingwall shops until 1980.
