Unfortunately we've been out with people who have kept a running total of all that they've had and then when the bill came presented exactly that amount towards it!  : :)

Well this is a good one – generally I am happy to split the bill.

However there have been times in the distant past when I have been on a very tight budget, forced to go out on work do’s deliberately chosen very cheap items on the menu and then got stung for the big share and being quite shy (then) it was very embarrassing if you just don’t have it and I didn’t really see why I should have to explain to anyone my personal circumstances.

Nowadays my big bug bear is the tip. I am a very generous tipper unless the service is so poor it doesn't warrant one. Bear with me because it is relevant.

I have lost count of the number of times I have put in my share plus my tip only to discover that the total amount submitted by everyone does not even cover the bill.

So nowadays I order whatever I want because I can afford it and don’t mind paying more than my actual share at all. However before I do that I ask people if they are tipping and how much! If I don’t like what I hear then I pay my own bill and put in my own tip and let the others get on with being miserly sods.

Agree wholeheartedly Nichola.

I always split it 50/50 and still people aren't happy. The wife complains about paying the same as me, moaning that I had a bottle of wine and she couldn't have a drink because she is driving.
