Title: On the post
Post by: Highlander on March 16, 2019, 23:13:26 PM
I have just watched this weeks Match of the Day.

Two great goals from direct free kicks just outside the box. But.....

In both case the goalkeeper lined up the wall to protect for instance the left hand side of his goal while he guarded the right hand side.

Now presumably he backs himself tp save a shot to his side but he has very limited influence over the wall side of the goal.

So why doesn't he position a defender on the goal line behind the wall to give added protection to that side of the goal and perhaps sow enough seed in the striker's mind that he can't score at that side.

Because that would attract opposition players in behind the wall, who are now not going to be offside...
