Bring back the cane!

49% of parents want the cane brought back and 53% are against it

I am all in favour of the teachers being in control of their schools and think bringing back the cane would be a step forward, I also think special hardline schools should be set up for serious repeat offenders,bootcamp style.

What say you?

I agree. At the minimum teachers should be allowed to restrain a unruly child.

There was a case in the paper yesterday of a girl ignoring a teachers request for an explanation around some misbehaviour in the canteen, she ignored his requests to stay behind and walked away, when he followed and blocked her way she again pushed by him. I suspect things then got a little heated but it is Joe him who is facing legal action over this child

49% + 53% ?? Seems they should concentrate more on mathematics!!

I for one would not like the cane brought back, or the strap or the slipper or any other article which could be used to beat, slap or thrash children.

This was the topic of a Radio 5 phone-in this morning. From some of the contributors I got a vision of a queue of men eagerly rolling up their sleeves and ready to get stuck straight in with the thrashing of children "Line 'em up - we're ready!". Not an attractive prospect.

Were it a realistic picture that you were painting, then it would not be an attractive prospect but I do not believe that the teaching profession is full of sadists.  I believe that there is a place for corporal punishment.

I would advocate a hand slapped backside for kids, the cane for senior school kids and the birch for juveniles, footie hooligans etc[!] Oh I nearly forgot, hanging for murderers [!]
p.s. I could go on a lot more about sex offenders!!!
