Title: Shaka becomes Mancero....
Post by: Firo on April 22, 2014, 15:42:39 PM
Shaka restaurant is nearly ready to reopen and it will now be know as Mancero.  ;D
It is going to specialise in steaks and will also have a Italian chef who will be making fresh pasta dishes and Pizzas in the new Pizza oven  :).  New huge open kitchens so you can see your food being prepared and cooked.
It is due to open any day soon and is looking good.
The same owners, Hilmi family, also own next door, the Verandah, which we have been told will be specialising in Fish dishes.
Yildo from the Buzz Bar is back there as their customer manager so you know you will be well looked after. ;D
Another new venue to try.

Just heard that Mancero will be open tomorrow Weds 23rd April. As far as the web cam working I have no idea as it might have been removed during the alterations.

Yes, it was the limonata that made me stop off there too, Jacqui.  :)

Will try and get down over the next few days and check it out. Many thanks for the update Firo.

Hope the service improves.    A friend and I sat outside for a good ten minutes last week without anyone coming near us.  They were not busy and the waiters were just standing around chatting.   We got up and walked away.  Will not bother again.

My son and his wife went Monday night and had the best meal they had eaten in Turkey in the last  15 years.
He liked the fact you had to ask for a waiter to come over the service was not rushed, they had steaks with a choice from the cabinet of 30 day hung beef or 90 dry aged which they opted for, no rice and chips, served with garlic potatoes and roasted vegetables.
The cocktails were also the best they had tasted large glasses and very strong.
The prices are higher but you don't mind paying for quality.

We went there on Sunday and it was one of the best meals we have eaten and was served in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I had the Dry aged Fillet Steak and it was meltingly good. Cost 45tl (approx £13). ;D ;D
New décor is very different to Shaka's but we liked it and found it was a lovely atmosphere. We're told it will be air conditioned in summer and heated in Winter.  8)
Yes more expensive than most but IMHO well worth it.It was nearly full with Ex pats and lots of Turkish families.
It is great to have civilised dining back in Fethiye.
If you worry about your beer being 10 tl rather than 7tl it will not be the place for you   ;)  ;) ;

The Veranda is now going to be re done into a Fish Restaurant called Hilmi and the colours will be like Greece,White and  Blue and we're told it will be a traditional Fish Restaurant.   :)

^ of us went on Wednesday evening, 1 ordered pizza was told they couldn't do pizza yet another ordered the veal with gorgonzola cheese was told no gorgonzola would she have other cheese 2 ordered spaghetti de mare tasted nice but the seafood was scarce, the drinks were ridiculous price wine started at 50tl for a wine you can buy in a supermarket for 23-24tl, a 1 litre bottle of water 6tl. The staff were nice enough and service was good but think they should have had a full menu on offer and should have a rethink on drink prices

Oh come on, would you compare prices of the local Harvester against a Gordon Ramsey restaurant, for example!
As I said in my previous post if you want low prices this won't be for you but if you want fine dining it will suit you.
Just compared a T.Bone steak in a bay side restaurant, in uk £32.50 in Mancero around £15!  50tl for a bottle of wine is only £14.50 ...
Even at those prices it's value for money and thank goodness we don't all like the same thing. Plenty of cheaper places around but you get what you pay for every where in the world..
Don't knock it until you have tried it and if you don't like the prices then move on to somewhere cheaper that will suit you and your wallet.

In our opinion Shaka was one of the best restaurants in Fethiye, we walked passed the new Mancero the other day and they invited us in for coffee and a look around, I asked why a restaurant in the top 10% would shut down and change? because we want to be in the top 2% was the answer.

Good on them, we've booked for our anniversary next week. Reports and pictures to come.

I loved the Shaka, went on Fi's recommendation a few years back and went back as much as possible after that, I will visit this when we are over, it sounds great, it's nice to have a place to go of this quality and prices for that menu seems very reasonable.

We loved the Shaka too.  Lovely place for a chilled out lunch.  Will give the new place a try.  Never mind if it costs a little more for good food and a lovely setting.
Also, re the wine prices.  It's the same in the U.K. there is always a huge mark up on the price of wine.

We have many lovely memories of this place, starting from our first night arriving. It was always the nearest place to us, we were comfortable to go there for a late nibble/snack and bottle of ice cold wine.  Heady memories. . . We were always made to feel special and the food was lovely. Price-wise half price of UK. If it's only nearly as good we'd be happy. (ish )   ;)

Some things in life do cost more, obviously. I think where we can all score is enjoying the expensive for what it is and enjoying the cheap for what that can offer too. I loved Shaka but lira for lira I love Frank Cannons just the same. Nothing different with hotels either - the Ece Saray was brilliant but at a fifth of the price we enjoyed the Manas Park equally.

Life is best enjoyed not by price but by value for money  ;)

Absolutely true, it can cost a fortune or it can be cheap as chips but its the one that rocks your boat that wins. It's all personal, dependant on the occasion whether starving, desperate, needing light food or elegance, it's down to the occasion and individual taste.   ;)

We went there a couple of weeks ago.  Prices are more expensive,  but worth it for the very smart  surroundings,  the impeccable  service, and the excellent food.  The dry- aged  steak  was superb.  We'll be taking our guests there next week.

We enjoyed our anniversary meal at the Mancero, we took Marks advice and had a cocktail (Mojito for Chris and Bloody Mary for me) they were delicious. For starters Chris had the fried chicken wings (nice, but not spectacular) I had the grilled octopus on aubergine puree which was absolutely spectacular.

Main course for Chris was eye of fillet which came roast vegetables and roast potatoes, I had the T Bone, both were absolutely divine, a coffee and a brandy finished off the night for me, until they brought out a lovely cake.

We had a bottle of really nice wine with our meal, it's not the cheapest meal we've ever had but on our special occasion we never wanted it to be the so, it was however one of the nicest we've ever had.

We love it there, (our first port of call for a bottle of Angora on usual late arrival), but really wish they would re-set their webcam. It must get hundreds of viewings daily plus my family/friends used to love seeing us there. Or I could plan to see my friends who live there when we are in UK. It's a great advert for them too. PLEASE?  ;D

Lance, I'm always happy to educate you, the shape of fillet tenderloin when sliced resembles the shape of an eye and consequently is known as "eye fillet" in certain parts of the world. Obviously places you haven't been to hence you being unaware of the term.

Eye Fillet of Beef is also how the meal is described on the Mancero menu, so at least you'll know what it is should you come across it.

Bella Mama is our favourite restaurant and we have never had a problem with small portions there - in fact we always struggle to finish our meals there lovely that they are.   I would much rather have a manageable plate of food that I know I can get through and enjoy rather than an enormous plate of food and know I am beaten before I start and I do hate leaving food.
Title: Re: Shaka becomes Mancero....
Post by: Marggie on May 26, 2014, 12:49:34 PM
I feel exactly the same, often beaten before I start but husband says "better to have too much than not enough" and one of my friends although quite a bit older than me can eat as much as any man.  In some places I ask for a child's portion and for me it is sufficient.

Eight of us went last week all ordered cocktails, two of the girls ordered pina colada, they brought 2 chocolate Martini's by mistake as he put them down Carole said we did not order these, as quick as a flash he said these are on the house while he shakes your Pina Colada and smiled. Excellent customer service.
The steaks were exceptional the best rib eye I have had anywhere.
The chocolate Martini's were superb.

I went last week, no cocktails as I'm too tight to pay those prices.  Stuck to lime and soda, as was driving .I felt 12 tl for a glass of wine was too much too.
My Seafood spaghetti was no more memorable than anywhere else apart from being about 8 tl dearer than most places and the 13tl tiramisu wasn't as nice as the one I used to buy in Aldi.
The portions of risotto were tiny and my friends said it was just ok.
Sorry, but to me it's over priced, a bit pretentious and were paying a premium for a refit which doesn't really look any different to how it was before.
Staff were lovely though, service was good and we had a great time as a group but all agreed we've had better food cheaper elsewhere.

Went for lunch this week.  The  tuna salad was disappointing just a small amount of tuna and loads of lettuce.
However, tried Matisse Restaurant for lunch and had a chicken salad, have to say there was so much chicken it was hard to finish and it was lovely.  Very nice staff too.  Will be back.

I agree Anne if I wanted a steak I always went to Casa or Bella mama served with frozen chips and a little dish of lettuce cucumber and tomato, but always good steak. But now I will go to Mancero happily pay 7tl more for a 90 day dry aged steak not to sit in a bamboo chair and not a sign of rice salad and chips

We always give a place a couple of tries before deciding whether its for us or not.  Every person has their own criteria and not all establishments will suit everybody.

We had lunch there again on Wednesday and tried the pizza's for the 1st time.  Thin and crispy, yum yum.  The pepperoni was actual pepperoni not sucuk sausage.

I'd be interested to know if anyone who likes rare steak has been there.  I rarely eat steak in Turkey but the two or three I've had have been really overcooked for my taste.  I ask for rare and get well done.  When it happened in our favourite restaurant I actually sent it back asking again for a rare one.  The next one came out medium.  I'd love to find somewhere that knows how to do a proper rare steak.  Incidentally, most places overcook fish and liver there too...

In general we've had some really excellent meals in Turkey, Shaka having been one of our favourite places.  Looking forward to trying it if it's still there when we next come!   ;D

I have always said that bringing power tools to restaurants should not be allowed.

some places in Calis you need power tools to cut the steak.

We went to Mancero on Sat past, my wife had the thin slice fillet steak with butter sauce, it came with rid em, she asked to change this to roat potatoes, no problem, I had the butchers sausages, super duper, I also noticed a cheese plate on the starters menu, asked to finish off our meal, no problem ,big or small, we went for small, 3 pieces of cheddar, smoked cheese, mustard seed cheese and a dry Spanish like cheese, served with strawberries, walnuts,a dried figs and dried apricots, all for 11 TK, would recommend this eating how use all day long.

We went to Mancero on Saturday night - and had to laugh when a chap got on the dolmus with a chainsaw - thankfully he didn't get off at the restaurant.

Anyway, I must say we thought the place was great - other than one of our party of 6 had a fairly gristly rib eye (mine was fine). Overall cost, including wine, starters, steaks (3 eye fillet, 2 rib eye, 1 sirloin) and deserts (for 4 of us), worked our at about TL100 per person.

Will definitely go back later this season.

Ian.

We went again last night to Carole had a 320gms dry aged fillet steak (aged for 90 days) only 50tl, it was the best steak we can remember eating. I had yoghurt kebap made with fillet steak, friends had pasta dishes all delicious. We made a fuss of the cocktails which have a lot of alcohol in, good value at 14tl up to 8pm still good value at 18tl.

Philrose. where are you going to get a fillet steak for £14 in the UK
?, anywhere else is approx 35tl to 40 tl, so aged steak for approx £3/4 more no brainer, if you are in the vicinity

If you walk from the new part of the promenade starting from behind the BP garage and new marina its about a 30-35 minute walk.

Is the general opinion that it is expensive and average? We have 6 evenings planned and one with the whole area to choose from. We thought Shaka was fabulous but this isn't making me want to give our free evening to Mancero, sadly.

We thought it was very nice, the location also adds to the attraction. Much prefer this than sitting on Calis front

We really liked it, I tend to have 2 starters rather than starter and main. This is my favourite, beef carpaccio.

Forward to going back in a few days.
The staff and the service are so good.
And the a amout of spirt in a drink is a real treat.

Got to agree with savoyboy, the food is good and the measure of spirits is big, had to use a full bottle of coke (small) to finish it.

Our favourite place to eat and drink cocktails, the dry aged steaks are the best we have had in Turkey.

Totally agree with Savoyboy and Dycedon, food is very good and spirit measures are large, had to keep topping up my gin with tonic.

Service is friendly and efficient. Location great.

Bit more expensive than most other restaurants but I would say it is worth it.

Susuz, i think we have a bit of a different opinion on this one, Terrace Bar in Fethiye do a great mojito, if you are ever along that way try their Strawberry Mojito, Tayfun has got the staff trained just right on the cocktails.

And forgot to mention small bottles of sweeps tonic.
For us there's nothing worse than flat gin an tonic.

If you stand with your back to McDonalds and look up across the road. Coming from the marina, walk right round past the cultural centre to the end of the marina, past the 2 fish sandwich boats you will see Mcdonalds, coming from Manceros, come to end of Marina, look up and it is in front of you, you will see a chemist on the corner, its up above that, probably clear as mud. and as ive said it is across the road, great place for cocktails

Think it is The Park Terrace that Dycedon is referring to.  The entrance and lift are on the side facing the car park.  Grear views too.
