Anyone recently got their 5 yr visa, and was the cost still £80 as some of the info from the consulate says, or is it the new cost of close to £800? that the consulate also says.

Col,
If you go to search <residence visa> you will find there were quite a few exchanges on that subject about a month or two ago. Word on the street seems that it went up to around the £800 you mention.

Yes. It has now gone up to £800 for a 5 year permit.
