What a shame for these people.  Am I correct that this area is south of the Dalaman road?

I've just done so and would ask as many members as possible to do the same - please back us on this as it's getting worse by the year and nothing gets done.

Sorry to those who own the apartments at the back of our house but they have to go! OK we did get flooded before they went up but it's ten times worse since the builder filled in the lake and built them. Whoever gave him planning permission to build on that plot of land wants locking up! I also understand it was meant to be two blocks of semis and then suddenly changed into a block of 12 or so apartments. It's leaning like Pisa as well.

What a shame for the people who year after year who live in this area who live in fear of being flooded out time and time again

Although I am Not One for Thinking that this should be an extension of Calis prom, I am lead to believe that this is the future of the Area, if this is the case Shame on you local Government as you are not going the right way about expecting people to invest there Cash  in the local area which floods year after year, Wake up smell the Coffee And sort out the Flooding Issues and then just then this area could and I mean just could be the next generation of the prom if that is your wish and not mine

Cheers Danky,

Could I ask you to add your message to the bottom of the article. That way it might carry more weight with the local council.

Cheers:

Can someone tell me what the verification code is please? I can't get it on my computer for some reason (must be my security settings). That is Telmessos and I have a property on there so would like to comment too.
Thanks.

Hi McGroogle.
There is no verification code as such as far as I know but you do have to request access.
If you look a bit above the Telmessas Rentals Discussion site you will see a topic entitled 'Request access to this forum' just go on there and follow the instructions and when scunner, the chairman of the board, sobers up I am sure he will allow you access if you are entitled.
Best Regards.

Dreamon - crossed wires I reckon. The verification code was on the newspaper website (I am already a member here). But I've managed to find it now so I've replied to the subject. ;) :)

Not sure about this year Tinx but 2 years ago lots of the area was flooded. Made the nationals then as well I think as quite a few people were affected and many stuck in their homes.

Hi Ciftlikites:

I'm considering (subject to interest)getting a letter translated into Turkish and sent to the local council. It can be done in petition form and anyone living in the Koca Calis area can then add their name to the letter.

Anyone interested?

For those on Saglik I have posted a message in the Saglik section and for those on my email list - you have a copy too. I need ideas as to what to put in the letter. I have a few but always it helps to have other views.

Hi Stoop, we also live in Koca Calis, just behind the Nazar Garden hotel and would be interested in adding our names to your letter.  We are luckier than others in that it is just our garden that gets flooded but it is still a nightmare and it would be great if we could get something done.

Denise.

Denise,

Thanks for your input. I will make sure you are included in anything I do regarding this.

Just out of interest have you seen the latest messages on the newspaper site? It seems now that it is us 'foreign owners' who have brought this on ourselves as we all should have known the area flooded before we bought our 'cheap little nest eggs'.

http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/n.php?n=tasan-kanallardan-dolayi-ingiliz-cift-evlerinde-mahsur-kaldi-2009-12-23

Nothing to do with the council giving  (and continuing to give) planning permission to build houses and sites without first making sure adequate drainage was installed? Failing to make sure the canals are kept clear of rubbish and overgrown plant life?

As a straw poll I would like to ask anyone who bought in the area to state if they knew it was an area likely to flood.

For the record I did not and our agent (now not in the business) did not mention it.

"How many actually live in Turkey dare one ask"

Why would you need to 'dare' to ask that? And what difference does it make anyway?

Good point Keith. Whoever this guy is he needs to get off his high horse and realise not everyone who has bought in this area is a 'greedy foreign owner' . We have some lovely Turkish neighbours who have spent big money buying on our site and they are affected too.

Seems some joker called wizardofOZ thinks it's funny that he managed not to buy on 'swampland' and we should all enjoy our fishing.

Makes me think though Keith. What made you buy on Saglik and did you know it flooded before you bought? You know I didn't as you sent me pictures AFTER we had bought and met on line.

I bought in 2003 Stoop - based on 5 photos and 9 seconds of video. The first non-Turkish owner. I won't tell you how much I paid but it was well less than 20k. I had no grasp of where it was and my agent told me it was "far closer to the middle of Calis than Telmessos". I had no idea about flooding and if the agent did he wasn't telling me :D

Cheers Keith.

I think you did well and sold at the right time. The flooding appears to have got much worse since we bought in 2004 and I can only assume it's the number of houses that have gone up, filling in the small ponds and lakes, that has contributed to this. I think the answer lies with the Belidye and hopefully they will realise this and act. It might coast more in council tax but i'm sure most will be happy to pay extra to make this less of a problem. The canals also need sorting and dredging them would be a good start.

I even found out the other day that Telmessos uses a pump to get rid of the floodwater but they pump it inland and not towards the sea. Seams odd but I'm assured it's true. It can't help our situation either.

Small point for now.

I have found the email address for Ciftlik Council and have sent them a very polite email asking them if they have any plans to try and stop this flooding happening again in the future. I think rather than send a petition at this stage it might be better to ask them (very politely) what they intend to do - if anything.

I know from experience that the Turkish do not like people to moan, rant and rave etc so I have been extra careful with my words. However I did use google translate so I hope it's turned out ok[?]

The email addy is on this page if anyone want's to do the same but let's not jump up and down at this stage and see what their reply is to some well meant questions.

I've just spoken to our neighbour and it seems the gardener, Faruk, has paid the price for this flood. Evidently he's been sacked by the manager (whose house was worse affected). Him, his wife and children are now jobless and homeless. Sad  - especially at this time of the year.

He also tells me that the council have been to the site and that they are to pay a private company to survey the area and build new drainage channels/canals. One especially for Saglik which should take all our excess water. 2 - 3 years is the timescale.

Have you seen the very smart villas that are situated to the left of gochek ? based arouns a canal system.I reckon something akin to that development would work with small marina / lake and with access to the sea or would that be to up market for the area, or would the turks like someone else to pay for it. good luck with your letter to council Stoop.let us konw if you get a response

Telmessos pump thousands of gallons of water an hour into the marsh which flows down into Mavi kent and Saglik, which is half of the problem
