Title: Heinz baked beans
Post by: Liz 101 on January 10, 2015, 13:58:31 PM
At the risk of sounding like a saddo, Kipa have these on offer at the mom for just 2tl (roughly 57p)  :P

That's cheap, in October Azda & Migros were selling the cheaper brands for 5 .5tl. Heinz were 7 .5 /8.0tl.
I usually keep a few in stock out there.

     signed.   Another Saddo.

They're around 57p here!!

Used to cost a fortune for baked beans (like everything else imported).

It's an expat thing Steve, you wouldn't understand  ;)

In the UK I buy the large catering size tins off a market trader, 3 tins for £2. 00p, ripped labels or slight dents.
I'll open one, divide it into 7 plastic takeaway containers and freeze them . Cheapio.

That's a bit rich coming from someone whose family have been known to bring meat pies & even the Sunday joint in their luggage   ;)

Lol......doesn't mean I wasn't thinking of asking you to grab 2 dozen for us. It will save us 10 times the amount in excess baggage charges

Well I'm very happy to know this, Liz. Shame they weren't at this price the day before when I bought 6 cans from Kipa. My husband and son seem unable to do breakfast without them.

£9.34 for 6 cans of beans. THAT is sad.

I'll tell you about being sad. We went to Calis Kipa today, ready to stock up and Heinz beans are 4 lira, elderado (or whatever) 4.5 lira.

I must learn to react quicker in future :-(

I remember when news of a one off delicacy (such as McVities Chocolate Digestives appearing in Migros once) used to spread by text like wildfire - causing MA & MB plate whacky races on the Calis to Fethiye road. I soon learned the correct procedure when you were the discoverer.

1. Find rare item on sale.
2. Buy as many as you need/want.
3. Let others know.

Think I will have to bring a couple of tins over for the Auction in May...and perhaps a tin of beans with little sausages in it, that will drive you ex-pats wild  ;D

It is true that wanting things because you can't obtain them. I craved far too many silly things while living over there. We used to bring two empty suitcases over to the UK when we came on holiday and it would be the most exciting thing ever to go on our last day to Tesco or Morrisons and buy two suitcases worth of things we missed.

Looking back, some of those things I can obviously have every day now if I chose to - but haven't in years   :)

The one thing I miss on my holiday trips is Slimline Tonic.  It is never in any restaurants.   We also found this problem in Amsterdam just before Christmas, in fact, no one had heard of it over there.  Very strange.
