Has anyone got a photo / photos of The Old Post office Bar in Calis by the bridge which were taken around 13 to 14 years ago when we first stumbled upon the Real Calis as was then ??. the best place to be in at the time
due to a misshap 1 page of my scrapbook log of our Calis visits of 13 yrs has bad coffee spill damage [ don't ask how ] and its ruined my photos.
Thanks in advance if you can post any on this this forum so I can print them off.

Think someone (Scunner/Highlander?) posted a photo of The Old Post Office bar a while ago, maybe they still have it.
Will have a look through ours to see if I have one.
Great bar, happy memories :)
-
hI Marina yes it was a brill bar we had great times there
-
By the Old Post Office I assume you mean the site of where B52 was.

scunner's is much better.
I must have had a few on old rolls of film which no longer see the light of day.

Thank you John

I am away at the mo but know the photo H means, I will post it when I get home.
But to me the ‘old’ Post Office isn’t the one in the photo?
The one in the photo was brill, a who’s who of Calis bar staff. Amazing times.
-
Ok so I couldn’t leave it alone :)

Arriving is the current Mrs Scunner and our twins, which dates the photo at exactly 15 years ago, 2003.

The 'old' Post Office is before our time.

Two of the "who's who" who remain great friends to this day. From 2000 I think.

Plus cowboy, Mahoney (the present Mrs H's "favourite" :o), Mustafa, Joseph.......

Thanks again to both of you for the photos

If you are looking to print mine Ron, I will have the original somewhere which will be far higher definition for printing. Let me know and I'll email.

If I understood that I would offer the same :-[ :-[ :-[

Not forgetting this "rascal" who, on our very first venture "downtown" from Buse (a far way up Baris Manco) persuaded us go into the establishment.

We later found out that his lovely wife's grandmother lived 3 miles down the road for where we stay - small world.
-
I think the original Post Office was situated where the Kerim hotel is now.
-
Post office was where B52 now is, still plenty of the old crowd around too.

My first visit to Calis Beach (and to Turkey) was in 2010 when we stayed in Mellisa Villas close to the Tugay hotel, so I'm only a "pup" in terms of my association with the resort and in comparison with those of you who have holidayed and have sometimes eventually made a home in the area.
Along with many others, I love the place and still get that feeling of anticipation when I book the next holiday, even after around a dozen or so visits to various hotels and apartments in Calis. Roll on 20th September and two weeks at the Oykun.
This thread started by Ron prompts me to ask if any of you have kept any photos of Calis bygone years which you would be willing to post on CBF and to share some of your memorable moments. :)
-
I agree with Maria1949 the Post Office Restaurant was where the Kerim is now.It looked onto the water taxi's. Maurice used to park his pink american car outside.
-
Yes please Keith when you get the time.
I have P M d you.
Thanks again

While we are down Memory Lane, does anyone remember an odd restaurant/hotel called Anil Sailor. It was located in a little hamlet half way along the road from Calis and Gunlukbasi (when there was open countyside between the two) on the right side of the road going inland. We walked there for a drink one evening back in the late 1990s and they appeared perplexed that anyone, apart from family, should think to come in off the road and sit at one of their tables.
-
Know it well Colwyn,we had an apartment near it (Lemon 4 ) and as you say not much going on there, We did call in one evening for a meal/ drink about 9pm but the barman said they had finished serving.
He very kindly took us to the Kemelkara on the Baris Mancho in his car which he recommended.
Only in Turkey :)

I remember bobby balls which i think was next door to the post office.

Lots and lots of photos but majority have family and friends made in Calis but thought I'd post these three (two of Letoon and one of the beach)

I well remember the Members Album feature in a previous "version" of CBF :).
PS The bad news is that I am compiling a mini album of our "memorable" moments.

Thank you Highlander for your Letoon photos. Over the years we have called in at the Letoon either for lunch or just a drink during the day. I recall some of your previous posts where you indicated that the Letoon was one of your favourite places in Calis. Your recommendation was the reason we first visited the hotel which we found to be a lovely place to relax and enjoy the views. We look forward to visiting again in September. :)
-
Hope you enjoy it Dennis.Last year the bar upstairs was very very noisy so pack some earplugs.
-
Thanks Ally B especially for the earplug tip! ;)
-
Letoon from 2002 - I can hardly believe how "primitive" it looks.

The food must have been good in the "primitive" Letoon, Highlander.............there's not much left on your plates. :)

That was one of the greatest falls from hero to zero ever in Calis - we discovered the KemalKara and in that huge garden there was us and a table of 4, really sparse. It was sensational - one of the best meals ever in Calis. Then we told everyone about it and by the time we returned it was cr4p.
