Title: New rules for transfer companies
Post by: Anne on August 25, 2018, 11:21:19 AM
Just read this on Doc Martin's page

Copied and pasted
Not specifically a topic for here, but many members use private hire transfer companies,so be prepared to supply the information asked for...

The Ministry of Transport have stated that from 1 November 2018, customers will need to provide their name and passport details to all airport transfer companies.
The details must be provided to either the transfer company at the time of booking or the driver of the transfer vehicle.
All transfer drivers must be able to produce this information at road checks and traffic controls.
Any companies that are unable to provide this information will be subject to fines and having their licenses revoked for repeat offences.
TURSAB are current implementing this and you may be asked for these details by some companies BEFORE 1 November as they are setting up the system in place in plenty of time.

This is for ANYONE who books a transfer, not just holidaymakers.
This system is for our security.

[With thanks to the Fethiye Times for the above info.]

Had family arrive last Saturday and FAT driver recorded all passport details before leaving Dalaman airport.

As did the Hoppa driver when I came out of Dalaman on Sunday evening.

Another security measure, which I suppose protects the drivers as well as the customers, particularly women travelling alone.

But there wasn't any issue in regard to single women travelling in private transfers alone?

More red tape and tracking for people who just want a holiday.

By giving the driver more personal details of the women than they would have had previously. How does that protect the women ?

I do believe it is getting too much.

To visit a country for a relaxing break...

...they know you are coming because they are one of the countries that need your API (Advanced Passenger Information) completed prior to flying.

They know where you are staying because your passport is required to be handed in when you arrive at the hotel.

Now, they can add to that the new requirement that not only do they know you are flying in, and where you are staying, but how you got from plane to hotel.

I'm coming to get some sun, pide and Efes - you'd think I was trying to gain access into North Korea :o

With this additional information they will be able to discover if anyone is staying at an unregistered property. A cunning plan to get the holidaymakers to do their work for them.

The world is an ever changing place and I agree that ‘big brother’ is watching us but there is very little we can do about it.  We have to “go with the flow”.  Technology tracks us everyday and ‘It has been proved that Alexa is a clipe’.

I agree with Scunner, I see no reason why your transfer driver/company need to know your passport details,  are they actively trying to deter tourists from visiting?

LeeGlo - the transfer companies have no choice in the matter they are simply complying with the new regulations, they are risking big fines or even worse if they don't.

Yes I understand that but I still don't see why the powers that be should require the transfer company to gather this information. Your information could end up in the wrong hands - just my opinion.

As far as I can see "the powers that be" already have 90% of the information that they are telling the transfer companies to collect on their behalf but the vital bit they don't know is the address where an independant (non package/hotel) traveller will be staying. They then simply fliter out all the registered addresses and go and pay a visit to the unregistered ones to check if the owner is there. If they are, apologise for disturbing everyone but if not, chuck out the visitors and fine the owner.

At a stroke they have changed a "hit and miss" investigation into a targetted one. Very clever.

Very clever indeed.

The problem is security and safety of the traveller. Remember back a few years when burglaries targeting private renters on their first night were rife - the question was who could know where all the new arrivals were, and the obvious answer was the transfer companies.

Some people believed it was them so much that they would give a hotel address or get dropped at the end of the street.

Not any more.

Does it say that you need to disclose where you are staying, or just that they need your passport details. If you are staying on a complex is there any need for the driver to know what number apartment you are in.

I dont intend giving my passport number to any driver. The hotel will hold that info and its suffice for driver to know the hotel name. If the authorities want to come and get my passport number, they'll know where to find me.

Toky

Unfortunately and I don't know the ins and outs, but I would not want the driver to suffer by me not giving the information he is legally bound to ask for.

Surely I can't be the only person who wants to challange this. My passport number is highly sensative information is it not?

They checked it 5-10 minutes earlier as you got off the plane and went through arrivals passport control. Therefore there is no benefit to recording it outside the same building - the information they seek is (as stated early on in this topic) knowing where people are staying.

No you're not the only one Toky but, this being Turkey, I'm just not sure what the consequences would be if you refused. Though I'd be interested to hear if anyone did.

So, if you want to keep under the radar, get a friend or relative to pick you up ?

Do the same rules apply to the Havaş bus ?
