is it possible to rent out a phone for a week or were is the cheapest place to buy one?

It's probably cheaper to buy an unlocked phone in UK and buy a Turkcell sim card over there.

Then you've got to get the UK phone registered for use in Turkey!

Better to buy a cheap phone in Turkey together with a SIM card. They start from around 60 YTL.

Buy a telephone card from PTT,costs 10tl,and gives you 84 minuites back to Uk.

.Oops just made a blunder,have just been informed it only works on landline.
