Are English mobiles still blocked from use with a Turkish Sim card or has someone found a way around it?

A friend of mine wants to send an old Orange mobile phone she no longer needs out to someone in Calis. I have told her that it might not work but thought it best to check first.

You will need to get phone unlocked then register it in Turkey within 14 days of entry as that is when they normally block unregistered phones.

If she posts it, it'll very likely be intercepted by customs.

I got a bit tired of my mobile phones continually getting blocked so now either use voice over IP or a SIM4Travel sim card (free to call from UK to Turkey, 25p a minute calling the UK)

I went in a few turkcell shops, they all told me to go to the one on the top road in Fethiye, it's on the left hand side going with the traffic, just a bit further up than the HSBC bank. Alan

We just bit the bullet and paid about 100 ytl for a Turkish mobile and sim. No problems now - all registered and left with our house management, sunnyd (Nikkie) when we are in the UK so that she can make sure the sim doesn't get stopped for lack of use.

Don't forget to pick it up Nikkie ;)

I used an English Mobile for years in Turkey right up until last October when it gave up and broke.

Went to the Vodaphone shop and paid 75 ytl for a phone and sim.
