Water rates
« on: February 26, 2010, 19:11:19 PM »
This was brought up as a concern at the UCW meeting on Thurs.

It seems that Uzumlu water rates for those of us with pools is now at 2tl per tonne versus, no pool, 51 kurus per tonne.

We made some quick enquries with a Turkish friend who thought that it was probably illegal.

We have agreed to try to get a large amount of folks who object, Turkish. German and British, to go and see the Baskan in mid April to show how we feel about the higher than normal charges.

If we get nowhere (which we expect) then we will be having individual petitions, written in Turksh printed and these will then be forwarded onto the Kaymakan in Fethiye or Mugla.

We are hoping to be able to hand these out at the April UCW meeting, after they have finished their business.

If you are interested in attending the Baskan meeting and are not on my mailing list please send me your email address by PM.

Friends who live in Dalaman, told us that a system similar to the unfair system we have here, was in existence there till protests caused it to be changed to a fairer tiered system. -So the more water you used the higher the rate.

We think the next water bill readings will be done when they get wind of the fact that we are aware of the price increase & prior to meeting the Baskan!
If this is the case, wondering how many affected households might be prepared to withhold payment?! No idea if this might be an option if enough of us were to consider it - we might all get cut off!!!!!
Rindi, can you give us any more info regarding the same problem that your friends had?
