a few questions after our recent holiday
« on: September 22, 2010, 21:00:42 PM »
We have just come back from our first holiday in Calis beach, and had a wonderful time. We can't wait to return.

Some questions I thought of while I was there.

What is the correct pronunciation of Calis? I have been saying it as in calculator but the rep called  it Chalis on the way back to the airport.

What were all the little sailing boats doing in the bay last weekend, training or a competition?

A lot of the buildings were not very old, has it been build up over recent years?

We found the resort to our liking, lots of bars and restaurants, but not too loud, nice quiet prom to walk along etc, but I am surprised there was no noisey jet skis :o, para sailing :o, them rubber things pulled by speed boats :o etc. Are they not allowed to have them in the bay?

Thank you

In recent years I have been to Hisaronu and Altinkum, but would not go back

Mrs H says Cha leash (but she's Scottish :)) I prefer Scunner's Chalish

Competition I think (looked like organised chaos :))

Lots of building in recent years.

Pass on water sports question.

Glad you had such a great time :)

Hi Blooming34, so glad you enjoyed your holiday, I went to Altinkum a long time ago, didn't like it much.
Calis is pronounced Chalish, it has been built up over the years, I'm sure there are some photos on here somewhere of how it used to be?
Can't help on other questions, sorry!  :)

Chalish.

There are often sailing club events in the harbour but unfortunately, like many things in the town, you only get to hear about them after the event.

Fethiye was hit by a big earthquake in the 1950s and a large number of the old buldings collapsed.

The lack of powered watersports events in the bay is down to the local council trying to preserve the tranquility of the area and to protect the local wildlife..............I think.
