A Calis Beach Story for Today

Recycling old Calis tales....

Quote
It reminds me of a story from one of my customers. First time in Turkey, they decided to give the Orient a try. Had a very pleasant meal and George (in what was probably his first month there) asked them if they would like dessert. They didn't really know what you might get in a Turkish restaurant for dessert so asked George what he would recommend. "Pine Cake" he suggested, "very nice".

They looked at each other, imagining something like a Victoria sponge flavoured with disinfectant, but also remembered the vast pine forests around the area and decided to be brave and adventurous, how bad could Pine Cake be, if it was on the menu and recommended. Also, it might appear rude to ask for a recommendation then turn it down. So, Pine Cake all round.

After some exchanges of worried glances, George reappeared with 4 plates, and 4 pancakes.

Nice one! Reminds me of the lovely Sener from Winehouse Uzumlu with his pronunciation of sponge

Remids me of the builder we once used. He left his card which said at the bottom:

"No jab too small"

I still have it in my drawer at home.

I like the boards outside restaurants that advertise Large bears  ;)
