lenght of time in turkey

You can only apply for as many years as you have left on your passport.
If you own a property you can apply for 5 years, if renting you can apply for 3 years if you have a 2 year rental agreement.
We did all the running around ourselves, it wasn't difficult.

You'll need to get a bank account sorted out (not a great drama and plenty to choose from) and to get both the residency and bank account you'll need a tax number, again not a drama.  You'll find lots of useful tips on how to do many of the things you've been advised of in this thread, in other threads on the site, by using the search tool.

BTW good luck, we love living here and are sure you'll be the same, but the advice given to think about renting first and also if possible keep you place on in the UK are sound pieces of advice in our books.

You can get 5 years if you are only renting too kayakebab, you only have to show as you say your rental agreement signed by the owners, doesnt have to state 2,3,4,or 5 year aggreement.
