This is presumably for cars as you can walk down there no problem, so probably not hitting the anti social behaviour people anyway, how can a restaurant have so much power to impose this?

I wondered about the barrier and three security guards. I took friends there for breakfast last week, I just said "Saat Restaurant" to the guy on the gate and he let us pass without payment, the other two guards were on a scooter chasing away local kids and people fishing from the beach.

They leased the land so I guess they can let in who they want and not let in those they don't.

Oh I find that a bit sad. It can't create good tourist relationships with the locals if they are chased from their own beaches. This happens all over the world and fury is evident from graffiti in some countries. They love the beach and fishing. Surely it's their right?

No Lotty. It's the right if the land owner/leaseholder to charge what they want as long as the council allow it.

It happens all over the world. Beaches become private because the lease is sold to a hotel or restaurant so that they can make it more 'exclusive'

I still think it's sad though, it's easy to see how it can cause resentments.

We go to one in Praia da Rocha. They cordoned it off a few years back and put in lovely beds, a nice bar and restaurant and charge 20 Euros a day to go in. They also charge an exortionate amount for food and drink but people still go. Us? Only out of season when it's 5 euros a day  ;)

They've also doubled up their sun beds, 2 rows instead of one making it more crowded looking at Saat. Not for me.

I'm not too keen on Sat anyway so 10tl or free is neither here nor there.  We just won't use it
