Where is the best place to buy.....
« on: August 08, 2015, 22:07:04 PM »
A friend of mine is going to Calis in the next couple of weeks and has asked me the best place to buy Ugg slippers and leather handbags. As I am not fond of shopping I was unable to help him. Is anyone out there able to give a few recommendations which I can pass on. TIA   :)

Probably Megri in Fethiye. Big choice of leather bags. You'll get them at the market too.

Megri or Reis Leather, both in the Paspatur area of Fethiye

Second Megri or Reis but there is also a nice leather bag shop in Hisaronu with very good quality bags, some designer copies. You can also buy fake Uggs in Hisaronu

Fake bags from £10.00 in the market, but not Leather.  Megri is mega expensive and the price they charge now will buy you a real designer bag in sales on the Internet sites that specialise in designer goods, sites like The Outnet and Secretsales often have designer bag sales and the bags are priced from £99.00 upwards.  I have looked in Megri and some leather fakes are £400.00. and some even more.
The cheapest real leather fakes are in Hisaronu in shops like the one opposite Goldfinger (leather bags from £40.00)and also in Marks & Spengler.   There are some bags in the shops in Calis, but a lot are plastic.    I often take bags back when asked by friends and family.  Steer clear of Mulberry, which are the most faked bags and there are so many of them in the shops.  Also once at the Airport check-in queues every other woman has one on her arm.
As for Uggs they sell them in Calis Main Street.   There have been many threads on Trip Advsor about fake Uggs and a lot are made in China by skinning Racoon Dogs Alive.   This is a piece about  them  http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2045016/Raccoon-dogs-skinned-alive-make-cheap-copies-Ugg-boots.html    So it is up to the indivdual if they want to buy them.    I have read that the fakes do not last long.
Real Uggs can be bought on websites like M.&.M Direct. at very good prices, last week there was a sale on M.&.M.Direct  and some Ugg Boots were half price.   I and some of my famlily have bought Ugg slippers  and boots on this site, sometimes for less than half price.    http://www.mandmdirect.com

There is a small shop (workshop) just below the old "Gold Computer" on the opposite side of the road.

A local guy is making handbags , both small and large, using the most wonderful hides. Some of the colours are fantastic
and so is the workmanship.

He will even copy your own designs if he thinks they will look ok.

Prices from 70 to 250 and well worth it

Where is this?  Fethiye or Calis?  which road is it on?   Sounds quite promising.

Thank you for your replies. I am visiting my friend this afternoon for a bbq and will take my iPad so they can look at your suggestions.

Jackstee, thank you for your recommendation. Can you explain where exactly this workshop is and are the prices you quoted lire or pounds sterling.   :)

Going out of Fethiye
A couple of hundred meters before where the Calis dolly drops you off and on the opposite side of the road.
Get off the dolly on the hill , walk up to the to ,cross road and walk back down about 200 meters.
Very small shop but bags hanging outside.

I'm going to take my "man" bag to be copied in leather

Price is in TL

So walk up the hill (away from the sea)from the dolmus terminus, where that very bad vehicle crossing is?  keep on the same side and turn right? and the shop is just up the road (the one way street).  Is this correct .?
