Hi everyone, thanks for all of your replies.  Really looking forward to coming back on the 9th December to shop till we drop.  Does anyone have any tips on furnishing a villa, or where to shop for the basics, eg beds, fridge, sofas etc ?

The resounding reply Roly will be to go to the spot shop in Fethiye, if you get off the Dolmus at the top end ( farthest from the sea ) of the Tuesday market site, the spot shop is on the other side of the road.

Try all of the little side streets in Fethiye for cuttlery, crockery and nic nacs, they are fantastic and really cheap.

The Markets on Sunday in Calis and I think Hisaronu ? And of course Tuesday in Fethiye are great for loads of household goods.

Good luck

Hi Roly, We went and furnished our villa in Oct, it was great fun. Prices were much cheaper than here for everything. Delivery was same day for the furniture, w.machine, fridge etc Two things we found to be more expensive were cutlery, knives aren't widely used in Turkey apparently therefore if you find them they were a bit pricey,and bedding, again because most of the year sheets are adequate, we wanted duvets for winter use and found the choice was v. limited.
Otherwise no probs!!

Just a couple of things we slipped up on when buying ;

We bought Duvets, great for our own use but no good if you are planning to have renters when you need a fresh change after each renter, likewise towels, we bought the biggest most luxurious bath towels you have ever seen, another mistake ! The cleaner has about two hours to get your villa ready between renters, this means having to wash bedding and towels for potentially 6 people in our case.

Consider how many wash cycles will be required after each renter and buy accordingly, or buy 3 washing machines !!!

Hi Roly,

Look at my string under "Buying in Calis Beach" - "Breakdown of costs".

You will get some idea of the cost of thinks from there also. Sue and Jim went in October and shopped at Migros as well as one or two other places.

Regarding the Spot shop- they did look there but did not buy anything - they didn't like anything they saw at the time. I suppose it's what's in when you go?

Hi Roly,

You're just down the road from us - we live in Atherstone. We have bought in Calis and Uzumlu.  We did look in Ovacik and fell in love with the properties at Olive Grove.  We almost bought and would have done if we hadn't found the one we are now buying in Calis.

Jo
