I agree the quaintness is slipping away quickly Tiger, loads of neon signs and sports bars now dont help. The canal wasn't nearly so bad when were there a few days ago thankfully because I believe it was awful over  Bayram.

I think we all need to accept that we contributed to losing the quaint - money coming in pays for the neon lights and slick, higher quality restaurants. I love the (not so) new Kordon and restaurants like Mancero, Carikli & Yengec, but sorely miss the days where a night at the Yakamoz (RIP) was the peak of style and quality.

Anyway, back to the smelly canal...

I was told it's the boats emptying their septic tanks into the water, how true I don't know.

I understood that septic tanks had to be emptied 3 miles out to sea!! I have to say that I have seen traces of sewage in the canal at times and also in some bays when out on a boat trip.
