As of 8:00am local time, access to Wikipedia has been blocked in Turkey.
5651 sayılı Kanun uyarınca yapılan teknik inceleme ve hukuki değerlendirme sonucunda bu internet sitesi (wikipedia.org) hakkındaki Bilgi Teknolojileri ve iletişim Kurumu ‘nın 29/04/2017 tarih ve 490.05.01.2017.-182198 sayılı kararına istinaden Bilgi Teknolojileri ve iletişim Kurumu tarafından iDARi TEDBiR uygulanmaktadır.

Didn't take him long, did it? Apparently there will be a court case this week - any bets it's got something to do with the 16th?

Couldn't resist this one.
A couple of years ago the government blocked certain pages on Vikipedi, the Turkish language version - this from the TDN (http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/wikipedia-releases-warning-on-turkeys-censorship-monitoring.aspx?pageID=238&nid=84255)article at the time:
Wikipedia has warned its users that Turkey “blocks” a number of its articles and is also monitoring contributors to the site.
“Did you know that some articles on Turkish Vikipedi have been blocked to users in Turkey?” Wikipedia’s Turkish homepage warns, giving a list of censored articles.
As of June 19, Turkey blocks a total of five Wikipedia articles: “Human penis,” “Female reproduction organs,” “Scrotum,” “Vagina” and “Opinion polling for the Turkish general election, 2015.”
Make of that what you will!

Cant get Wikipedia or the link to the site John F, but there's always a way, with a VPN. Probably this will be the downhill start of thing to come............

As I said on another topic regarding this latest presidential decree, I not sure it's a bad thing... but that's just me :)
It's interesting that the number of complaints received by RTUK about these shows jumped from a thousand or so to ninety odd thousand within the space of a year.
Now Star TV and NTV have been fined for broadcasting a Victoria's Secret fashion show - apparently seeing women in underwear is "is damaging children’s physical, psychological, and moral development".

Ban ratified in court today and looks like my mate was bang on:
An Ankara court ordered to ban Wikipedia in Turkey after the site’s administration refused to remove two English language pages which claimed that Turkey channeled support to jihadists in Syria, daily Habertürk reported on May 1.
The court’s justified decision to ban Wikipedia, the world’s largest online encyclopedia, was published on April 30. Wikipedia will become accessible only if the administration agrees to remove the content, according to the decision. Just in case people didn't know, or had forgotten, that Turkey supplied arms to Islamic State/Daesh in its early days the AKP court has now ensured that it gets plenty of press coverage again. Well done lads.
