We are hoping to move out to Fethiye in the next few months.
I need a new computer and also a mobile phone. Can anyone advise if it is better to wait until I come to Fethiye or buy them here and bring them with me.
Thanks for your help,
Cathy :)

Computers ...similar to UK. Laptops usually more expensive. Mobile phones Siemans A70...89 YTL Motorola L6....340YTL Nokia6230i...517 YTL Samsung D600...678 YTL. These prices taken from Migros catalogue, so you may be able to do better. Hope this helps. :)

I would buy in the UK then go get a Turkish sim card and register your phone at the same time (make sure you have a receipt for the phone)
As for a computer you can buy a desktop for around 499 YTL from dogus electric - suitable for basic needs. Or buy a laptop in the UK a good site for discounted new and refurbished machines is www.itcsales.co.uk.

Probably better to take laptop with
you loaded with english programmes
unless you are fluent in turkish! also
an english keyboard is useful
www.europc.co.uk is a good site

Thanks everyone for the information. At least I have a decent idea of what to aim for.

You can get your turkish laptop made into english again as a friend of mine has had that done recently although dont know what she paid for it!

we managed to get a new pc not a laptop for around 400 pounds for the full kit laptops are more expensive here though

I`ve just built myself a new desktop, it cost approx £134, i already had a monitor, all parts bought here in Turkey.
I did have an english keyboard bought over though, because even with TipEx i couldn`t change the Turkish one to English.

PS, Linda193, Whoever changed a Turkish laptop keyboard into an English one, must be some hell of a technician.

Very glad Cathy asked that question. I have a Virgin Mobile, which I'd like to keep, so the info re new sim card is useful to me too. I also planned to buy a laptop in the UK and bring it out when we move, but what about import duty? Anybody know if this would apply.Ok so it's not strictly a 'reply' to the topic but it is related. Any info welcome thanks - Glo

Just bring it out as hand luggage....no one seems concerned at Dalaman. :)

Thanks tribalelder, thats what I was thinking of doing but didn't know how hot on customs were. Sorry about the delay in replying - my puters been poorly. Thanks again - Glo

make sure the mobile you bring out is unlocked to all networks as some cannot be unlocked

Does anyone know how much the import duty would be if you bring your own computer over, i know this has been covered before but i cant seem to find it. Thanks

I was thinking of bringing a second mobile out, just for use while we are in Turkey and buying a sim card locally for this purpose. Does anyone know what the cheapest place to buy a pay-as-you-go sim card, and what call charges are likely to be?
Also, since this is a second-hand mobile, I do not have a receipt. Is this likely to be a problem?

Type mobile phone into the search at the top. There is lots information about mobile phones and tarrifs. Anne
