Title: House Insurance
Post by: Fran on July 04, 2006, 17:55:36 PM
We have just received a renewal quote for our earthquake/building/contents insurance. The quote is 524YTL. This is for a three bedroom/2 bathroom duplex apt.
Does this seem a reasonable amount to pay.

Thanks Fran :)

oh dear sorry, Aviva sigorta, part of the commercial union group.  they are based near to the cinema in Fethiye above the florist.  always send out reminders too, either by post email or phone.  all policies in English aswell as Turkish.

Medical ins 1078TL for the year for 2.  I cant say if this is good or bad as never had to use it.

We had insurance with Garanti when we first bought our place, and found out it was far too expensive, changed it the following year and halved the cost:D

The price will depend on the property size, cost, where and periods it is empty. For contents it is the same as the UK - you get various levels of service (Gold, silver etc)
Most banks will sort it for you. We keep ours with the bank as it makes automatic renewal easy for us - maybe later we will spend valuable holiday time shopping for a cheaper quote but for what the bank charged I don't believe any saving made would be justified at present!

I paid £50 for my contents insurance and £188 for my Buildings/Earthquake etc.  That was for a 4 bed semi detached villa.  I had that was reasonable at the time.

We insured for our first year with AXA in Fethiye and it was a total off £188 for £70K buildings and £5K contents. We had no DASK as we did not know about it. My problems started about two weeks fefore it ran out in January 2006 as I could not get a reply from them by E Mail. I sent loads to the Fethiye branch and even got their Istambul number off the net but still no response. Consequently we were not insured from Jan to early May. Luckily there were no problems.
This time we renewed with Garanti who were running "promotional offers". DASK 100.2 YTL, Buildings and contents 233.8 YTL. This will be renewed automatically unless we stop it although we have authorise the DASK to be taken from our account. It will be intereting to see if they try to bump it up "now that they have got us on board".

That would work out approx the same as my insurance above, except that I took out the extra 100,000TL earthquake cover due to the Dask ins only cover upto a max of 41,000TL.

Hi Ken and Sue. In my experience, all insurance companies 'buy' business to compete but they will put your insurance up next year. Garanti added another 15% this year. I'm going to shop around for next year. Many thanks to those who have given useful advice.

For info, the old AXA office near Gima is no more, AXA are now within the new Renault dealership on the Gunlukbasi road. Asli, their agent speaks excellent English.
